Uusimmat sää- ja luontoseurantakuvat kesäisestä jaksosta - The newest weather and nature follow-up photos from the summery period

Uusimmat sää- ja luontoseurannan valokuvat on nyt päivitetty sekä huhtikuuhun että toukokuuhun. Täydennetty jakso kattaa huhtikuun 3 viimeistä päivää ja toukokuun 4 ensimmäistä päivää. Jaksolla vallitsi ajankohtaan nähden erittäin lämmin kesäinen sää, jolloin lämpötilat olivat päivisin ajoittain jopa +23 asteen tienoilla sisämaassa ja muutamina öinä lämpötilat pysyivät alimmillaan +10 asteen vaiheilla. Kuvista nähdään tämän lämmön aiheuttama kasvukauden nopea eteneminen. Jakso oli lähes sateeton, mutta kahtena viimeisenä päivänä lämpimässä ilmamassassa kehittyivät vuoden ensimmäiset heikot ukkoset. Niitä havainnoin sekä Hämeenlinnassa että Espoon Tapiolassa. Ukkosten jäljiltä Etelä-Suomen maa jäi epätasaisesti kosteaksi; toisin paikoin ei satanut edelleen yhtään (etenkin rannikko) ja toisin paikoin satoi useita millejä lyhyessä ajassa. The newest weather and nature follow-up photos have now been updated both into April and into May. The added period consists of 3 last days of April and 4 first days of May. There prevailed an unseasonally warm summery weather during the period, when temperatures were during afternoons occasionally even around +23 C in inland areas and during few nights temperatures stayed at the lowest around +10 C. The rapid proceeding of the growing season caused by this warmth is seen from the photos. The period was almost rainless, but during the last two days there formed the first weak thunderstorms of the year in the warm air mass. I observed them both in Hämeenlinna and in the district of Tapiola in Espoo. The thunderstorms left the soil of southern Finland unevenly moist; on other places there rained further nothing (especially the coast) and on other places there rained several millimetres in a short space of time. Maaliskuun 2007 Maisema - Landscape kuvasarjan otsikot on nyt laitettu paikoilleen. Tuolloin maaliskuu oli etenkin loppupuoliskoltaan ennätyksellisen lämmin. Näistä linkeistä (A B) löytyvät sääkartat olosuhteiden tarkasteluun ja tässä on Helsingin Puistolan sääaseman ko. kuukausitilasto (A). Tämäkin päivitys on osa uutta julkaisumenetelmää. Tämän hetken ja tulevista olosuhteista: Terminen kesä on siis alkanut laajasti Etelä-Suomessa (jossakin vaiheessa Helsingin Puistolan säätilaston ilmestyttyä tarkkaa päivämäärää voidaan tarkastella) ja lämpö on saanut kasvukauden erinomaiseen alkuun; eilen rusokirsikka (Prunus sargentii) oli kukinnan huipussa Espoon Tapiolassa ja tänään Hämeenlinnassa olen havainnut sittenkin tuomen (Prunus padus) aloittaneen kukinnan lämpimillä kasvupaikoilla jo tämän viikon puolella. Eilen koin Hämeenlinnassa myös vuoden ensimmäisen ukkosen. Se oli kuitenkin heikko (muutama jyrähdys parissa tunnissa) ja se sijaitsi lähimmillään muutamia kilometrejä etelään Hämeenlinnan keskustasta; ko. paikalla satoi uutisten mukaan rakeitakin.

Tänään on tämän lämpöaallon viimeinen kesäisen lämmin päivä edelleen mahdollisten sisämaan ukkosten kera. Alkuviikolla pohjoistuuli tuo niin kylmää ilmaa, että maanantain ja tiistain välinen yö on etenkin sisämaassa hallayö ja tiistaina päivälämpötilakin voi jäädä vain vähän päälle +10 asteeseen. Näyttää kuitenkin siltä, että heti tiistain jälkeen lämpenee taas sen verran lännestä käsin, että hallanvaara ainakin lievenee (vaihteleva pilvisyyskin vaikuttaa siihen) ja päivälämpötilat voivat nousta +15 asteen tienoille. Sadekuuroja voi tulla silti useana päivänä ensi viikolla. Maa säilyy paikoin edelleen turhan kuivana siitä huolimatta myös ensi viikolla. Tuo alkuviikon halla ei huolestuta minua, koska esim. viime ja etenkin toissa keväänä paljon pahemmat hallatilanteet eivät olleet pahasti tuhoavia pitkälle ehtineestä kasvusta huolimatta.

About this moment's and future's circumstances: So, the thermal summer has started widely in southern Finland (at some point the precise date can be observed as the weather chart of Puistola, Helsinki has been published) and the warmth has made the growing season into an excellent start; yesterday Sargent Cherry (Prunus sargentii) was in full bloom at Tapiola, Espoo and today I have observed here in Hämeenlinna Bird Cherry (Prunus padus) to have started its flowering after all at warm localitys already in this week. Yesterday I experienced in Hämeenlinna also the first thunder of the year. However, it was weak (few rumbles in couple of hours) and it situated at the closest few kilometres south from the center of Hämeenlinna; there came hail as well on the scene in question according to the news.

Today is the last summery warm day of this wave of warm weather further with possible inland area thunderstorms. During the early week northerly winds will bring such a cold air, that the night between monday and tuesday will be groundfrosty especially in inland areas and at tuesday the afternoon temperature as well may stay only a bit above +10 C. However, it appears to be the case, that immediately after tuesday it will get warmer from the west in such a way, that the risk of groundfrost will at least become minor (variable cloudiness will have an effect to that as well) and afternoon temperatures may rise around +15 C. There may come showers during several days during the next week, though. The soil will remain locally unnecessarily dry despite of that also during the next week. That groundfrost of the early week doesn't concern me, because for example during last spring and especially during the spring before that much worse groundfrost situations weren't badly damaging despite the growth having been developed far.

The newest Flickr photos of the weather and nature follow-up are published; A B C. The added period is covering the time from the 18th day to yesterday afternoon. There prevailed almost rainless and temperaturewise a typical April weather; during afternoons around +10 C and at nights at zero C or couple of degrees frosty. Just at the end of the period the weather started to warm and afternoon temperatures rose already above +15 C in inland areas.

Sää- ja luontoseurannassa on ollut tavanomaista pidempi tauko uusimpien kuvien julkaisun suhteen, mutta tässä on viimein täydennetyt huhtikuun 2008 kuvasarjat (A B C). Jakso on 8. päivästä eiliseen iltapäivään asti. Jaksolla kevään eteneminen oli ajoittain melko hidasta, mutta sateita saatiin runsaasti viime viikon aikana. Aivan jakson alussa oli tavanomaista lämpimämpää, sitten viileni selvästi viime viikon lopulla ja tällä viikolla sää on lämmennyt melko lähelle ajankohdan tyypillisiä lukemia; päivälämpötilat n. +10 astetta ja öisin pari astetta nollan molemmin puolin pilvisyyden mukaan.

Terminen kasvukausi on edennyt myös hitaasti ja katkonaisesti, mutta hyvin moni kasvilaji on jo näyttänyt kasvun merkkejä selvästi etuajassa; esim. tuomi (Prunus padus) on melkein hiirenkorvalla ja raita (Salix caprea) on täydessä kukassa lämpimillä paikoilla. Myös narsissit (Narcissus sp.) ovat aloittaneet kukinnan lämpimillä paikoilla. Nurmikot ovat jo lähes kauttaaltaan vihreitä, mutta eivät aivan vielä leikattavassa kunnossa.

Viikonloppuna sää ei siis vielä lämpene, mutta ensi viikolla näyttää siltä, että lännestä olisi vähitellen asettumassa korkeapaine Etelä-Suomen ylle ja eteläpuolelle, joka mahdollistaisi sään lämpenemisen hitaasti; ensi viikon puolivälin tienoilla voi sisämaassa olla mahdollisuus yli +15 asteen lämpötiloihin. Yöt ovat vielä selkeän sään tilanteissa ainakin hallaöitä paikallisine yöpakkasineen etenkin sisämaassa.



There has been a longer pause than normally regarding the publishing of the newest photos in the weather and nature follow-up, but here are finally the updated photo sets of April 2008 (A B C). The period is from the 8th day up to yesterday's afternoon. During the period the proceeding of the spring was occasionally rather slow and fragmentary, but there came precipitation a lot during last week. Right at the beginning of the period it was warmer than usually, then it cooled down clearly at the latter part of the last week and this week the weather has warmed rather near to typical values of this time; afternoon temperatures about +10 C and at nights couple of degrees around zero C according to cloudiness.

The thermal growing season has been advancing also in a slow and fragmentary way, but very many plant species have already showed signs of growth clearly ahead of schedule; for example Bird Cherry (Prunus padus) is almost unfolding its leaves and Goat Willow (Salix caprea) is in full bloom at warm localitys. Daffodils (Narcissus sp.) as well have started their flowering at warm localitys. Lawns are almost entirely green already, but not just yet in a mowable condition.

So, the weather won't warm up yet during the weekend, but next week it appears, that there would be settling cradually a high pressure from the west over and to the southern side of southern Finland, which would make possible weather's warming slowly; around the mid way of the next week there may be a possibility in inland areas for above +15 C temperatures. Nights will be yet at least ground frosty (frost only near the ground's surface) with local night frosts (the whole air column is frosty) especially in inland areas.

Now I have updated the photo set Maisema - Landscape on my Flickr pages. The new headlines are now on the photos of December 2006 and January 2007. At that phase I didn't take photos so much frequently, so therefore there are intervals in the sets and there remain many kinds of weather situations in the shadow due to that. Sää- ja luontoseurannan kuvajulkaisu uudistuu taas - The photo publish of the weather and nature follow-up is renewed again

Päätin tehdä lisää helpotusta ja järkeistämistä projekteihini myös valokuvauksen suhteen. Uusi järjestely koskee valokuvien julkaisua luonto- ja sääseurannassa (entinen blogitrilogia): Nyt lopetan myös Maisema - Landscape blogin päivittämisen ja julkaisen ko. kuvat vain Flickr -sivuillani. Kaikkien näiden kolmen kuvasarjateeman (Maisema - Landscape, Taivaankansi - Firmament ja Maan povi - The Bosom Of The Earth) uudistaminen Flickr -sivuilla kuuluu myös asiaan. Tästä lähtien kunkin kuvan otsikot vaihtuvat niin, että kuukauden nimen korvaa kuvaa luonnehtiva otsikko.

Maisema - Landscape; otsikko kuvaa säätilannetta samaan tapaan kuin tähän mennessä (marraskuu 2006) ko. blogissa olleet otsikot. Taivaankansi - Firmament; otsikko kertoo pilvilajin ja kuvaussuunnan. Maan povi - The Bosom Of The Earth; otsikko kuvailee ko. tilannetta lyhytsanaisesti. Joidenkin kuvien alle saatan laittaa lisähuomioita, jos on tarpeen jonkin erikoistilanteen tms. takia. Aloitan otsikoiden tekemisen Maisema - Landscape kuvista ja etenen kohti nykyhetkeä ripeään tahtiin. Voitte seurata työn etenemistä koko ajan, koska pidän kuvat näkyvillä. En laittanut linkkejä tähän, koska kaikki kuvasarjat ovat helposti löydettävissä tämän blogin oikean reunan Flickr -linkin (Mikan valokuvia - Mika's photos) kautta.



I decided to do more relief and rationalization into my projects regarding photography as well. The new order concerns the photo publishing in the weather and nature follow-up (the former blog trilogy): Now I will end the updating of also the blog Maisema - Landscape and I will publish the photos only on my Flickr pages. A renewing of all these photo set themes (Maisema - Landscape, Taivaankansi - Firmament and Maan povi - The Bosom Of The Earth) is also included in the case. From now on the headlines of every photo will change in such a way, that the name of the month will be replaced by a headline characterizing the photo.

Maisema - Landscape; the headline describes the weather situation in the same way as the headlines up to here (November 2006) in the blog in question. Taivaankansi - Firmament; the headline tells the cloud type and the photoshoot direction. Maan povi - The Bosom Of The Earth; The headline describes the situation in question with few words. I might place additional notes under some photos, if it is necessary due to some special situation or other such thing. I will start the making of the headlines from the Maisema - Landscape photos and I will proceed towards the present moment in a fast pace. You can follow the proceeding of the work all the time, because I will keep the photos displayed. I didn't put links here, because all photo sets are found easily via the Flickr link (Mikan valokuvia - Mika's photos) on the right edge of this blog.

Ennätysvarhaista kevättä seurannassa ja tulevasta viilenemisestä - A piece of record early spring in the follow-up and about a coming cool down

Sää- ja luontoseurannassa on vuorossa huhtikuun 2008 ensimmäiset kuvat. Tässä ovat linkit (A B C). Jakso on kuun alusta eiliseen iltaan asti. Jaksolla vallitsi melkein koko ajan tavanomaista lämpimämpi sää päivälämpötilojen oltua alussa jopa selvästi yli +10 astetta. Ainoastaan viime lauantai oli muista päivistä poiketen melko kolea. Jakson lopussa aurinkoiset ilmat vaihtuivat sateiseksi ja ajoittain sumuiseksi sääksi, mutta kahden viime päivän ajan niukasti Etelä-Suomeen ulottunut tavanomaista lämpimämpi ilmamassa sai yöt erityisen leudoiksi runsaan pilvisyyden auttamana; minimilämpötilat jopa yli +5 astetta.

Jakson lämpimyys sai termisen kasvukauden alkamaan jälleen ennätyksellisesti ja se näkyy nyt esim. haavan (Populus tremula), raidan (Salix caprea), koreanonnenpensaan (Forsythia ovata), sinivuokon (Hepatica nobilis) ja etelänruttojuuren (Petasites hybridus) kukinnan alkuina, terttuseljan (Sambucus racemosa), herukoiden (Ribes sp.) ja kuusamien (Lonicera sp.) hiirenkorvina. Siitepölytiedote (ei arkistoidu) kertoo, että sadesää on osaltaan laskenut siitepölyn määrää ilmassa. Osittain lepät (Alnus sp.) ovat kuitenkin jo lopettamassa kukintaa Etelä-Suomessa ja seuraava allergiavaihe - koivun (Betula sp.) kukinta - on jo ovella.

Maa on ollut kokonaan sula jo lähes kuun alusta asti, mikä on auttanut nurmikoita ennennäkemättömästi vihreään kasvuun jo näin varhain. Paikoin nurmikot olivat osittain vihreitä koko ennätysleudon talven! Jos huhtikuun lopulla tulee ensimmäinen kesäinen lämpöaalto, niin paikoin nurmikoita leikataan näiden olosuhteiden auttamana ensimmäistä kertaa niiden historiassa jo huhtikuussa... Viime vuonna se oli jo hyvin lähellä toteutumistaan, mutta nyt todella jännätään mahdollista historiallista kasvukautta! Nyt kasvukauden etumatka tavanomaiseen aikatauluun on jopa 3 - 4 viikkoa.

Viikon loppuun asti sää näyttää pysyvän epävakaisena Suomen länsi - eteläpuolella olevan hyvin laajan matalapaineen takia. Siinä on useita osakeskuksia ja yksi niistä kulkee huomiseksi Etelä-Suomeen etelästä melko runsaine sateineen. Sen heikennyttyä paikalleen uusi osakeskus (liikkuen koilliseen) syntyy Suomen eteläpuolelle torstaina ja samaan aikaan Jäämerellä näyttäisi vahvistuvan korkeapaine. Sen takia sää olisi huomisen jälkeen viilenemässä itä - koillistuulien myötä. Termisen kasvukauden etenemiseen voi sen takia tulla tauko ja sään mahdollisesti seljetessä yöpakkaset saattavat palata. Myöhäinen takatalvinen sää ei kuitenkaan näyttäisi kovin pahalta mahdollisuudelta...



It's the turn of the first photos of April 2008 in the weather and nature follow-up. Here are the links (A B C). The period is from the start of the month to the yesterday evening. There prevailed almost all the time warmer than the average weather during the period as afternoon temperatures were in the beginning even clearly above +10 C. Only last saturday was rather cold as differing from the other days. At the end of the period sunny weather changed into a rainy and occasionally foggy weather, but a warmer than the average air mass reahced narrowly into southern Finland during the last two days, made the nights especially mild as helped by the profuse cloudiness; the minimum temperatures even above +5 C.

The warmth of the period made the thermal growing season to start again in a record breaking way and it is showing now as for example beginned bloomings of European Aspen (Populus tremula), Goat Willow (Salix caprea), Early Forsythia (Forsythia ovata), Liverwort (Hepatica nobilis) and Butterbur (Petasites hybridus), unfolded leaves of Red Elderberry (Sambucus racemosa), Currants (Ribes sp.) and Honeysuckles (Lonicera sp.). The pollen report (doesn't become archived) tells, that the rainy weather has been lowering the amount of pollen in the air. However, Alders (Alnus sp.) are partially already ending their blooming in southern Finland and the next phase of allergy - the blooming of Birch (Betula sp.) - is already at the doorsteps.

The soil has been completely melted from almost since the start of the month, which has been helping lawns to a green growth this early in a never before seen way. Locally lawns were partially green during the whole record mild winter! If there will be the first summery wave of warm weather during the latter part of April, then lawns will be mowed locally for the first time in their history already in April as helped by these circumstances... Last year that was already very close to happen, but now we are really being exited about a possible historical growing season! Now the advance of the growing season is even 3 - 4 weeks ahead of an average schedule.

The weather seems to stay unstable to the end of the week due to the very wide low pressure situated in the western - southern side of Finland. There are many subcentres in it and one of them will move from the south to southern Finland until tomorrow with its rather profuse rains. As it has been weakened at its place, there will form a new subcenter (as moving to the northeast) to southern side of Finland at thursday and at the same time there would seem to strengthen a high pressure over The Arctic Ocean. Due to that the weather would become cooler after tomorrow along with easterly - northeasterly winds. Therefore there may come a pause in the proceeding of the thermal growing season and as the weather will become possibly clearer, nightfrosts might be returning. However, a late wintry weather wouldn't appear to be that bad possibility...

Kokonainen maaliskuun 2008 seuranta ja suotuisa kevätennuste - The whole follow-up of March 2008 and a favourable spring forecast

Nyt olen päivittänyt maaliskuun 2008 sää- ja luontoseurannan kuvasarjat loppuun Flickr -sivuillani. Päivitetty jakso on 25. päivästä kuun loppuun; linkit (A B C). Tällä jaksolla talvi näytti vielä visuaalisesti voimaansa, kun 26. päivänä tuli koko "talven" voimakkain lumimyrsky. Etelärannikollekin saatiin jopa n. 20 cm lunta, mutta aivan kuun lopussa tavanomaista lämpimämpi kevätsää sulatti sen määrän nopeasti.

Myös tänään jatkunut lämmin sää on sulattanut lunta nopeasti ja ennen takatalvea ja lumimyrskyä lumettomana ollut alue on taas jo lumeton (mukaan lukien Helsinki ja täpärästi Hämeenlinna). Samalla lumitilanteessa on nyt alkanut näkyä erittäin huomattava ero lounaan lumettoman alueen ja idän hitaasti sulavan vanhan lumipeitteen välillä; kuten havaitaan (ei arkistoidu), niin lumirajan kohdalla ero on jyrkkä. Idässäkin lämmin sää vaikuttaa kuitenkin aurinkoisilla paikoilla lunta tehokkaasti sulattaen ja lumipeitteen sulalaikkuisuutta alkaa esiintyä jopa 25 - 50 cm lumensyvyysalueella ennen kuin sekin on madaltunut pois.

Eilisistä lämpötiloista tähän vielä täydennys; viimeinen tieto kertoo tässä Ilmatieteenlaitoksen viime kuun sääraportissa, että eilinen Suomen ylin lämpötila oli Porin lentokentällä +13,2 astetta. Viime vuonna oli ennätyslämmintä jo aikaisemmin maaliskuussa; (A B).

Tulevasta säästä; nyt vaikuttaa siltä, että eilen mainitsemani kylmeneminen voi jäädä hyvin vähäiseksi, koska se länteen - lounaaseen asettuva matalapaine pitää tuulet loppuviikolla enemmän kaakossa kuin idässä. Tilanteessa Suomen etelä - kaakkoispuolelle jää lämmintä ilmamassaa ja sen ulottuminen Etelä-Suomeen on hyvin pienestä kiinni; joko kylmenee tai sitten voi jopa lämmetä lisää. Vesisateita voi silti tulla joka tapauksessa. Mitään takatalvea ei näillä tiedoilla ja näillä näkymin ole tulossa... Jatkukoon kevät siis suotuisissa merkeissä.



Now I have updated the March 2008 weather and nature follow-up photo sets to the end on my Flickr pages. The updated period is from the 25th day to the end of the month; the links (A B C). During this period winter showed yet its power visually, as at the 26th day came the strongest blizzard of the whole "winter". There came also to the southern coast even about 20 centimetres of snow, but right at the end of the month a spring weather warmer than the average melted that amount quickly.

The warm weather continued also today has melted snow fast and the area having been snowless before the late wintry weather and blizzard is snowless again already (including Helsinki and narrowly Hämeenlinna). At the same time there has now started to appear a very significant difference between the snowless area of the southwest and the eastern old slowly melting snowcover; as we can observe (doesn't become archived), the difference at the snow's appearing limit is striking. However, in the east as well the warm weather will affect at the sunny places as melting the snow effectively and there will be appearing melted patches even on the snow depth area of 25 - 50 centimetres before even that is lowered away.

Yet an addition to here regarding the temperatures of yesterday; the last information tells in this Finnish Meteorological Institute's last month's weather report (unfortunately only in finnish), that the highest temperature yesterday in Finland was +13,2 C, as measured at the airport of Pori. Last year it was record warm already earlier in March; (A B).

About the coming weather; now it appears so, that the colder weather mentioned by me may remain very minor, because that low pressure settling to the west - southwest will keep winds more to the southeast than the east during the weekend. In the situation there will remain warm weather in the southern - southeastern side of Finland and its reaching to southern Finland will be a very close call; either it will get colder or then it may even warm up more. In any case it may rain, though. There won't come any late wintry weather in this light of the facts for now... So, let the favourable spring weather continue.

Talvinen vaihe sää- ja luontoseurannassa ja kevään paluu - A wintry phase in the weather and nature follow-up and the return of spring

Pääsiäisen tauko on ohi ja jatketaanpa nyt yhä sääasioista, koska elämme kriittisiä vaiheita kasvinviljelykauden alkamisen suhteen. Tässä ovat aluksi linkit (A B C) päivitetyille sää- ja luontoseurannan sivuilleni Flickr -palvelussa. Päivitetty jakso on 17. päivästä eiliseen iltapäivään asti. Jaksolla talvinen sää piti otteessaan ajankohtaan nähden tavanomaista vahvemmin, mutta kevään eteneminen näkyi jo auringonsäteilyn voimassa; se sulatti sataneita lumia iltapäivisin jopa heikossa pakkasessa ja lämpötiloissa oli huomattava vuorokausivaihtelu. Parina yönä pakkasta oli Etelä-Suomen sisämaassa jopa n. -15 astetta, mutta kaksi viimeistä yötä ovat jo olleet leudompia.

Alkanut viikko tuo kevään takaisin, mutta sitä ennen huomenna on kärsittävä etelästä - kaakosta saapuvan voimakkaan matalapaineen tuoma sakea lumipyry hyvin voimakkaan koillistuulen kera. On ironista, että tuo pyry saattaa olla koko "talven" ankarin ja sitä on odotettu aivan kevääseen asti. Lunta kertyy taas eniten idässä, mutta esim. pääkaupunkiseudullakin saattaa tulla yli 10 senttiä lunta. Toisaalta läntisin osa Etelä-Suomesta saattaa selvitä hyvin vähäisellä lumisateella. Viime lauantain - sunnuntain lumisateesta tuli vain pari senttiä Helsingin seudulle, mutta se määrä on säilynyt melko hyvin tähän päivään asti.

Keskiviikon jälkeen Suomen länsipuolelle muotoutuvat matalapaineet kääntävät tuulet etelään - lounaaseen ja sen myötä sää lämpenee selvästi. Etenkin yöt lämpenevät, koska tuulet voimistuvat ja viikonloppuna lounaasta saapuu myös sadealue. Päivälämpötilat voivat kohota viikonloppuna +5 asteen tienoille ja sadealueen myötä la - su välinen yö on jo pakkaseton. Sade voi vielä tuolloin tulla ainakin sisämaassa osittain lumena alkuvaiheessa, mutta myös vettä sataa. Viikonlopun jälkeen keväinen lämpö näyttäisi voimistuvan edelleen (ensimmäinen +10 asteen ylitys...). Niinpä viimeistään ensi viikolla huomenna satava lumi ja näissä pakkasissa muodostunut muutaman sentin routa sulaisivat pois kokonaan täältä päin Suomea...

Tämä tietäisi edelleen erittäin aikaista kevään etenemistä tästä tilapäisestä keskeytyksestä huolimatta, koska ennätysleudon "talven" jälkeen maa ja vesistöt ovat niin vähän jäässä ja kasvillisuus on niin pitkällä kasvunsa alussa. Näillä näkymin odotan arboretumprojektini kevättyövaiheen alkavan kunnolla tämän ansiosta ennätyksellisesti jo ensi viikolla.



The pause of Easter is over and let's continue now further about weather matters, because we are living critical stages regarding the start of plant cultivation season. At first here are the links (A B C) to the updated weather and nature follow-up pages of mine in Flickr service. The updated period is from the 17th day up to the yesterday afternoon. During the period a wintry weather held its grip stronger than usually regarding the time of the year, but the advance of spring appeared already in the strength of the sun radiation; it melted fallen snowcovers during afternoons even in a weak frost and there was a significant cycle in night and afternoon temperatures. During couple of nights there was even about -15 C of frost in southern Finland's inland areas, but the last two nights have already been milder.

The started week will bring spring back, but before that one has to suffer tomorrow a dense blizzard with very strong northeasterly winds brought by a strong low pressure arriving from the south - southeast. It is ironic, that the blizzard in question might be the severest of the whole "winter" and it has been expected right into the spring. There will accumulate snow the most again in the east, but for example at the capital city region as well there might be falling over 10 centimetres of snow. On the other hand the westernmost part of southern Finland might be getting away with very minor snowfall. From the last saturday's - sunday's snowfall there came only couple of centimetres to Helsinki region, but that amount has been lasting rather well up to today.

After wednesday low pressures forming to the westernside of Finland will turn winds to the south - southwest and along with that the weather will warm up clearly. Especially nights will get warmer, because winds will strengthen and during the weekend there will arrive a precipitation area as well. Afternoon temperatures may rise around +5 C during the weekend and due to the precipitation area the night between saturday - sunday will be already frostless. Then the precipitation may come yet partly as snow in the beginning phase at least in inland areas, but there will be rain as well. After the weekend the spring warmth would appear to get further stronger (the first topping of +10 C...). Therefore during the next week at the latest the snow falling tomorrow and the few centimetres worth of soil frost formed in these frosts would melt away completely in this area of Finland...

This would mean further a very early proceeding of spring despite this temporary interruption, because after the record mild "winter" the soil and water areas are so little frozen and the vegetation is so far in the beginning of its growth. In this light I am expecting the spring task phase of my arboretum project to start properly in a record breaking way already during next week thanks to this.

Mennyt kevään pilkahdus ja voimistuva takatalvi - The gone blink of spring and the strengthening late winter

Maaliskuun 2008 sää- ja luontoseuranta täydentyy Flickr -sivuillani; (A B C). Jakso on 10. päivästä eiliseen iltaan asti. Jaksolla kevät näyttäytyi ensimmäistä kertaa kunnolla sulattaen "talven" suurimmat lumimäärät nopeasti pois, mutta jakson lopussa alkoi vaikuttaa vähän talvisempi sää. Tavallaan synkän pilvinen normaali marraskuu palasi.

Tulevina päivinä näyttää siltä, että talvinen sää jopa kiristää otettaan koko loppuviikoksi. Tästä eteenpäin ilmamassa kylmenee, koska kaksi matalapainetta luovat siihen olosuhteet; ensimmäinen Suomen eteläpuolelta itäpuolelle liikkuva ja toinen heti sen perään lännestä Suomen eteläpuolelle liikkuva. Näin Etelä-Suomi jää kylmien itä - pohjoistuulten alueelle pitkäksi ajaksi. Luonteeltaan sää tulee olemaan vaihtelevan pilvistä, lumikuuroista ja ajoittain voi olla päivälläkin pakkasta voimistuneesta auringonsäteilystä huolimatta. Selkeimpinä öinä voi loppuviikolla olla pakkasta sisämaassa -10 astetta enemmän ja etelärannikolla -5 ja -10 asteen välillä. Helmikuussa mitatut "talven" pakkasennätykset jäävät kuitenkin voimaan. Joka tapauksessa yhä talvisempi sää siirtää keväisten ulkotöiden aloittamista edelleen arboretumprojektissani.



The weather and nature follow-up of March 2006 is added on my Flickr pages; (A B C). The period is from the 10th day to yesterday evening. During the period spring appeared for the first time properly as melting the "winter's" most profuse amount of snow away fast, but at the end of the period started to affect a bit more wintry weather. In a way darkly cloudy normal November returned.

During the coming days it appears to be the case, that a wintry weather will even strengthen its grip for the rest of the week. From here onwards the air mass will get colder, because two low pressures will create circumstances for it; the first one moving from the southern side of Finland to the eastern side and the second one immediately after it moving from the west to the southern side of Finland. This way southern Finland will remain in the cold area of easterly - northerly winds for a long time. The nature of the weather will be variably cloudy, snow showery and occasionally there may be even during afternoons frost despite the strengthened sun radiation. During the latter part of the week at the clearest nights temperatures may be in inland areas colder than -10 C and by the southern coast between -5 C and -10 C. However, the "winter's" frost records measured in February will remain entact. In any case the evermore wintry weather will postpone further the start of spring tasks outdoors in my arboretum project.

Maisema - Landscape päivitys ja pitkäkestoinen pikkutakatalvi - The Maisema - Landscape update and the longlasting minor late wintry weather

Nyt olen päivittänyt sää- ja luontoseurannan blogia Maisema - Landscape. Samalla karsin taas pois liian vaivalloisia työvaiheita päivittämisestä. Tästä eteen päin kuvasarjat Taivaankansi - Firmament ja Maan povi - The Bosom Of The Earth ovat kokonaisina linkkeinä ko. blogissa eikä kuva kuvalta palasina. Käykääpä katsomassa myös muut muutokset. Pahoittelen sitä, että niissä antamissani sääkarttalinkeissä on tässä päivitysjaksossa taas virheitä; toisella arkistosivulla sääkartat ovat osittain sekaisin kronologisesta järjestyksestä. Ärsyttävää!

Supistin myös tekstejä yhä edelleen ko. kuvasarjoissa; nyt pilvien liikkeistä ei ole sanallisia kuvauksia. Sen asian voitte opetella tulkitsemaan pintapainesääkartoista. Nyrkkisääntöinä ovat nämä; rintamiin liittymättömät pilvet kulkevat maan pinnan tuulten mukaan. Tuulen suunta ja voimakkuus luetaan tässä tapauksessa kartan ilmanpainekäyristä, missä tuuli kiertää matalapainetta vastapäivään ja korkeapainetta myötäpäivään suunnilleen ilmanpainekäyrien suuntaisesti. Mitä tiheämmässä käyrät ovat, sitä voimakkaampi tuuli on ja sitä nopeammin pilvet kulkevat ko. paikalla.

Rintamiin liittyvät pilvet etenevät rintamien mukana, mutta yksittäiset pilvien osat liikkuvat siinä myös yläkerrosvirtausten mukaan eri kulmissa ko. rintamaan nähden. Taivaankansi - Firmament -kuvasarjoissa on tästä eteen päin maininnat rintamiin liittyvistä pilvistä. Jos itse lajeista ei ole mainintoja, niin silloin rintamapilvet ovat piilossa alempien pilvien takana ja silloin mainitaan vain rintamapilvien karkea määrä. Rintamapilvet ovat yleensä verho - hahtuva - sade - kuuropilviä runsaassa tapauksessa ja vähäisessä tapauksessa untuva - harso - palleropilviä. Rintamaan nähden poikkeavasta kulkusuunnasta on tarvittaessa maininta samoin kuin on mainintoja muista erikoistapauksista. Pilvien kuvaussuunnat on mainittu viimeisenä.

Lopuksi tämän hetken ja tulevien päivien säästä. Alkuviikon lämpöaallon aikana +10 astetta jäi saavuttamatta niukasti ja nyt sää on kylmentynyt niin, että tänään etelärannikollakin satoi ajoittain räntää - lunta. Lämpötila on ollut koko ajan kuitenkin sen verran nollan yläpuolella, että maahan muodostunut ohut lumipeite on sulanut (mm. yhä jatkuva meren lämmittävä vaikutus näin kylmässä tilanteessa). Sisämaassa lunta on satanut runsaammin ja siellä monet lumettomatkin alueet ovat saaneet tänään vahvemman lumipeitteen. Tilannetta voi seurata kelikameroista.

Tulevina päivinä tämä takatalvi jatkaa otettaan melko samaan tapaan. Etelä-Suomen päälle tullut matalapaine on paikallaan sunnuntaihin asti ja se antaa ajoittaista räntä - lumisadetta heikoissa tuulissa. Runsas pilvisyys estää yölämpötilojen tippumista ja ainoastaan sisämaassa voi joinakin öinä olla n. -5 astetta pakkasta (rannikolla pari astetta). Päivisin on joka tapauksessa parisen astetta plussaa. Alkuviikolla Suomen eteläpuolelta itäpuolelle näyttäisi liikkuvan kohtalaisen voimakas matalapaine, joka ylläpitää edelleen samanlaista kylmää jaksoa. Matalapaineen reitistä riippuu se, tuleeko lunta ja kuinka paljon...

Joka tapauksessa nyt ei ole vielä näköpiirissä seuraavaa kunnolla keväistä lämpöaaltoa, vaan tavallaan jo viidettä kuukautta peräkkäin jatkuva normaalin marraskuun kaltainen syys-talvisää pitää pintansa pitkään ja se ei anna kunnon mahdollisuutta kevättöiden alkaa ulkona arboretumprojektissani. Maa tosin on nyt ennätyksellisesti sula ja sen mahdollinen ohut jäätyminen riippuu tulevien yöpakkasten ja iltapäivien lämpöasteiden jakautumisesta. Mahdollisesti tulevat lumipeitteet voivat myös aiheuttaa pitkää viivästystä. Onneksi yöpakkaset pysyvät tuon pilvisyyden ansiosta vain ajankohtaan nähden tavanomaisina. Sen takia jo kasvuunkin lähteneet kasvit säästyvät suurelta stressiltä.

I apologise the fact, that in this update period there are again errors in those weather map links I have given; in the other archive page the weather maps are partially mixed up from the chronological order. Irritating!

I decreased also the texts furthermore in the photo sets in question; now there aren't written describtions about the cloud movements. That matter you can learn to interpret from surface pressure weather maps. The rules of thump are these; the clouds not relating with fronts are moving along with the winds of earth's surface. In this case the direction and the strength of the wind is read from the map's isobar lines, where the wind circles the low pressure anti-clockwise and the high pressure clockwise approximately along to the isobar lines. The tighter the isobar lines are the stronger the wind is and the faster the clouds move at the location in question.

The clouds relating with fronts are moving along with the fronts, but single parts of the clouds in there are moving also with upper level air flows in different angles to the front in question. In the Taivaankansi - Firmament photo sets there will be from now on mentions about the clouds relating to the fronts. If there aren't mentions of the cloud types in question, then the frontal clouds are hiding behind the lower clouds and then only a coarse amount of the clouds is mentioned. The frontal clouds are generally altostratus - altocumulus - nimbostratus - cumulonimbus clouds in the profuse case and in the minor case cirrus - cirrostratus - cirrocumulus clouds. When needed, there will be a mention about the differing moving direction regarding the front in the same way as there will be mentions in other special cases. The photoshoot directions of the clouds are mentioned the last.

To the end about the weather of this moment and coming days. During the early week warm weather +10 C remained unreached narrowly and now the weather has gotten cold in such a way, that there came sleet - snow also by the southern coast. However, temperatures have been all the time so much above zero C, that the thin snowcover formed onto the ground has melted (for example the further continuing warming effect of the sea during this cold situation). In inland areas there have been snowing more profusely and there many snowless areas as well have been getting today thicker snowcover. The situation can be followed from the weather cameras.

During coming days this late wintry weather will be continuing its grip in a rather same way. The low pressure arrived over southern Finland will be in place until sunday and it will be giving occasional sleet and snow in weak winds. A profuse cloudiness will prevent night temperatures from dropping and only in inland areas there may be about -5 C of frost at some nights (by the coast couple of degrees). During afternoons there will be in any case couple of degrees above zero C temperatures. During early week there would appear to be moving a moderately strong low pressure from the southern side of Finland to the eastern side, which will maintain further a same kind of cold period. From the path of the low pressure depends the fact, that will there be snowing and how much...

In any case, now there isn't in sight a next proper spring warmth, but in a way already for the fifth month in a row an autumn - winter weather similar to normal November will hold on to its grip for a long time and that won't be giving a proper chance for spring tasks to start outdoors in my arboretum project. Though, the soil is now unfrozen in a record breaking way and its possible thin freez will now depend on the distribution of the coming night frosts and afternoon above zero C temperatures. Possibly coming snowcovers may also cause a long delay. Fortunately the night frosts will remain only at an average level of the season thanks to that cloudiness. Due to that also the plants already started to grow will be spared from a great stress.

Talven näkyvin yritys sää- ja luontoseurannassa - The most visible try of winter in the weather and nature follow-up

Maaliskuu on alkanut ja sen myötä nyt on vuorossa sen kuun ensimmäinen sää- ja luontoseurannan päivitetty jakso Flickr -sivuillani. Tässä ovat linkit; (A B C). Jakson aikana Etelä-Suomeen saatiin tämän "talven" talvisimmat olosuhteet lumipeitteen suhteen. Lumipeitteen maksimisyvyys (n. 10 cm) saavutettiin laajasti etelärannikkoa myöten ja tarkastelupisteellänikin Espoon Tapiolassa lumipeite muodostui "talven" pitkäaikaisimmaksi. Lämpötilojen suhteen talvisinta säätä ei kuitenkaan saavutettu, koska tammikuun alussa pakkasjakso oli pidempi ja helmikuun puolivälissä oli kovempaa pakkasta. Tähän aikaan aurinko myös lämmitti jo iltapäiviä aurinkoisina hetkinä. Aivan jakson lopussa alkoi leuto sää, joka tuo kevään koko eteläiseen Suomeen sulattamalla lumet ja ennätyksellisen vähäisen roudan kokonaan tällä viikolla.

Päivitys klo. 23:50: Tänään olosuhteet tuntuivat todella keväisiltä; sään seljettyä tarpeeksi lämpötilat kohosivat eteläisessä Suomessa laajasti +7 ja +9 asteen välille. Ilmamassa on nyt niin lämmintä, että tätä kirjoitettaessa lämpötila on vielä +5 astetta Espoon Tapiolassa. Pilvisyys tosin estää lämpötilan laskua osaltaan, mutta joka tapauksessa yöstä on tulossa hyvin leuto ja vielä huomenna on mahdollisuus ensimmäistä kertaa tänä vuonna saavuttaa +10 astetta... Tämän päivän lämpö on tuonut kevään esille myös allergiani suhteen. Tänään illalla aivastelin ensimmäistä kertaa tänä keväänä merkkinä voimistuneesta harmaalepän (Alnus incana) ja tervalepän (Alnus glutinosa) kukinnasta. Niiden jo noin kuukauden jatkunut kukinnan alkuvaihe saavuttaa nyt paikoin huippuaan. Jopa 4 - 5 viikkoa etuajassa normaalista aikataulusta!



March has begun and due to that now it's the turn of that month's first updated period of weather and nature follow-up on my Flickr pages. Here are the links (A B C). During the period southern Finland got this "winter's" most wintry conditions regarding the snowcover. The maximum depth of snowcover (about 10 centimetres) was reached widely all the way to southern coast and also at my observation post in the distric of Tapiola in Espoo the snowcover became the longest standing of the "winter". However, there wasn't reached the most wintry weather regarding the temperatures, because at the beginning of January the frosty period was longer and there was severer frost at the middle February. At this time the sun also warmed up the afternoons already during sunny moments. Just at the end of the period started a mild weather, which will bring spring to whole southern Finland as melting snow and the record minor soil frost completely during this week.

Update at 11:50 PM: Today circumstances felt really springlike; as the weather cleared up enough, temperatures rose in southern Finland widely between +7 C and +9 C. The air mass is now so warm, that at the time of this writing the temperature is yet +5 C in the district of Tapiola in Espoo. Though, cloudiness is preventing the temperature drop for its own part, but in any case it'll be a very mild night and yet tomorrow there will be a change to reach +10 C for the first time this year... Today's warmth has brought spring to the fore also regarding my allergy. This evening I sneezed for the first time this spring as a sign for strengthened blooming of Grey Alder (Alnus incana) and Black Alder (Alnus glutinosa). Their early stage blooming continued already for about a month will reach now locally its peak. Even 4 - 5 weeks ahead of a normal schedule!

Ennätyslämpimän "talven" keväinen päätös - The springlike end of the record warm "winter"

Ennätyslämmin joulu - helmikuu sai tyypillisen loppunsa ko. jaksolla, kun ajankohtaan nähden erittäin leuto sää jatkui käytännössä koko ajan. Jakso oli siten erittäin keväinen ja talvesta oli vain hyvin vähäisiä merkkejä. Toisaalta olosuhteet olivat edelleen myös syksyisiä aktiivisen matalapainetoiminnan takia. Keväisin päivä oli 25.2., jolloin lämpötilat olivat jopa +7 asteen tienoilla iltapäivällä. Terminen kevät eteni ja se näkyi luonnossa mm. leppien (Alnus sp.) ja pähkinäpensaan (Corylus avellana) kukinnan kehittymisenä edelleen ennätyksellisesti. Kasvukausi ei silti vielä alkanut määritelmän mukaan.

Now I have completed the updating of the weather and nature follow-up of February 2008. The added period is from the 25th day to the end of the month; (A B C). The record warm December - February got its typical ending during the period in question, when the unseasonally very mild weather continued practically all the time. Therefore the period was very springlike and there were only very minor signs of winter. On the other hand conditions were also autumnal due to the active low pressure activity. The most springlike day was the 25th of February, when temperatures were even around +7 C during the afternoon. The thermal spring proceeded and it appeared in nature for example as Alder (Alnus sp.) and Hazel (Corylus avellana) blooming developing further in a record breaking way. The growing season didn't start yet according to the definition, though.

Tässä on jälleen helmikuun 2008 sää- ja luontoseurannan kuvia Flickr sivuillani. Täydennetty jakso on 18. päivästä eiliseen iltaan asti; (A B C). Jaksolla vallitsi edelleen erittäin leuto sää muutamia pieniä pakkasia ja ajoittaisia lumisateita lukuun ottamatta. Jakso sisälsi tavallaan sekä syksyn (erittäin sula meri ja voimakkaat matalapaineet vesisateineen) että kevään (lisääntynyt auringonsäteily selkeinä hetkinä ja ensimmäiset kasvien kasvu- ja kukintatilanteet) piirteitä. Koko "talvi" huomioon ottaen tämän jakson myötä olosuhteiden äärimmäinen erikoisuus alkoi tuntua erittäin vahvasti ja pelottavasti. Tänään siihen on tullut lisää vahvistusta, koska jo kolmantena hetkenä lyhyessä ajassa eteläisessä Suomessa on mitattu jopa +6 - +7 asteen lämpötiloja ja taivaalla on ollut lämpimälle vuodenajalle tyypillisiä iltapäivän kumpupilviä kuin normaalisti vasta huhtikuusta lähtien!

Ennätyksellisen sulan meren takia edelleen vallitsi siis marraskuinen meren lämmittävä vaikutus ja sen takia sisämaa-alueet olivat edelleen etelärannikkoa lumisemmat. Sisämaassa lumen määrässä oli muodostunut poikkeama länsi-itäsuunnassa; Hämeenlinna oli ajoittain lähes lumeton, mutta samalla tasolla Itä-Suomessa oli yli 20 cm lunta. Tämä on erittäin leudon talven tyypillinen piirre, koska mantereinen ilmasto vaikuttaa idässä vielä helmikuussakin kylmentävästi ja leudoissa tilanteissa yleensä tulevat runsaat sateet ovat siellä länttä useammin lunta. Idän mantereisuus näkyi myös viime sunnuntaiyönä säätilanteen auttamana, kun Itä- ja Pohjois-Suomessa oli pakkasta -20 ja -33 asteen välillä (talven kylmin yö siellä). Samaan aikaan Etelä- ja Länsi-Suomessa oli korkeintaan n. -5 astetta pakkasta ja lounaisrannikolla lämpötilat olivat jopa nollan yläpuolella; muodostui historiallisen kummallinen lämpötilaero pieneksi hetkeksi.

Täysin lumettoman alueen laajuus oli eteläisessä Suomessa lähes koko ajan ennätyksellinen ajankohtaan nähden. Joet virtasivat edelleen pääosin jäättöminä ja järvissä oli paljon ohuempi ja hauraampi jää kuin normaalisti tänä aikana; monin paikoin jopa alle 20 cm (noin 50 cm pitäisi olla normaalisti tähän aikaan). Virtaavien paikkojen vedet olivat ennätyksellisen sulia järvissäkin ja esim. Helsingin alueilla meren sisälahtiin edellisen jakson lopussa muodostunut ohut jää on nyt sulanut melkein kokonaan ennätyksellisesti. Näyttää siltä, että lämpimyyden aiheuttamista ennätyksistä on tullut ennätyksellisen tavanomaisia. Joka tapauksessa me nykyiset ihmiset todistamme nyt täällä päin Suomea täysin uudenlaisia olosuhteita aikaisempaan kirjoitettuun historiaan verrattuna.



Here are again February 2008 photos of the weather and nature follow-up on my Flickr pages. The added period is from the 18th day up to yesterday evening; (A B C). There prevailed further a very mild weather during the period not counted for few small frosts and occasional snowing. The period contained in a way features of both autumn (very unfrozen sea and strong low pressures with their rains) and spring (increased sun radiation during clear situations and the first growing and blooming situations of plants). Considering the whole "winter" due to this period the extreme speciality of the circumstances started to feel very strongly and terrifyingly. Today there has been coming more strengthening to it, because already for the third occasion in a short time there have been measured even +6 C - +7 C temperatures in southern Finland and there have been afternoon cumulus clouds in the sky typical for a warm season, like normally only from April onwards!

So, due to the record unfrozen sea there prevailed further a Novemberish warming effect of the sea and due to that inland areas were further more snowy than areas by the southern coast. Into the amount of snow in inland areas there had been formed a deviation in the direction of west-east; Hämeenlinna was occasionally allmost snowless, but at the same latitude in eastern Finland there was more than 20 centimetres of snow. This is a typical feature of a very mild winter, because continental climate is affecting yet in February as well in a cooling way in the east and the profuse precipitation usually coming in the mild conditions are over there more often snow than in the west. The continental feature of the east showed as well at the last sunday night as helped by the weather situation, as there was frost between -20 C and -33 C in eastern and northern Finland (the coldest night of the winter over there). At the same time there was only about -5 C of frost in southern and western Finland at the most and by the southwestern coast temperatures were even above zero C; there formed a historically peculiar temperature difference for a short time.

The width of the completely snowless area in southern Finland was allmost all the time record breaking considering the time of the year. Rivers streamed further mostly icefree and on lakes there were way thinner and more fragile ice layers than normally during this time; even under 20 centimetres (about 50 centimetres should be the average at this time). Waters in streaming places were record unfrozen in lakes as well and for example in Helsinki areas the thin ice layers formed onto the inlets of the sea at the end of the period have now melted allmost entirely in a record breaking way. It appears to be the case, that the records caused by the warmth have been forming to be average in a record breaking way. In any case we present humans at these parts of Finland are now witnessing completely new kinds of circumstances, as compared to the previous written history.

Tuolloin vallitsi aluksi kostea, pilvinen ja erittäin leuto sää Etelä-Suomessa. Jopa sisämaan lumet vähenivät merkittävästi ja ennätyksellisen lumeton alue muodostui etelärannikolle. Loppupäivinä talvi yritti taas tulla, mutta lunta ei tullut juuri ollenkaan. Kuitenkin 16. päivän yö oli tähän mennessä "talven" kylmin (katso alla). Tässä ovat linkit: (A B C).

Now it is the turn for the weather and nature follow-up update on my Flickr pages. It is the question of the February 2008 period from the 9th day to the yesterday evening. Then there prevailed at first humid, cloudy and very mild weather in southern Finland. Even the snow in inland areas decreased significantly and a record snowless area was formed to the southern coast. During the last days winter tried to come again, but there didn't come snow hardly at all. However, the 16th day's night was the coldest of the "winter" so far (look below). Helmikuun 2008 sää- ja luontoseurannan kuvasarjat alkavat Flickr -sivuillani. Ensimmäinen jakso on kuun alusta 8. päivän iltaan asti. Silloin talvi yritti tulla hyvin heikolla menestyksellä ja vain ajoittaisia lumipeitteitä esiintyi märkyyden keskellä. Etelärannikon ja sisämaan välille muodostui kuitenkin iso ero lumen määrässä sulan meren marraskuisen lämmitysvaikutuksen takia. Merkittävä myrsky oli 3. päivän yönä ja aamuna ja koko myrskymatalapainetta edelsi taas voimakas aamurusko ensimmäisenä päivänä. Tässä ovat linkit; A B C.

Jatkon säästä lyhyesti; tähän mennessä +5 astetta on täpärästi jäänyt rikkomatta (n. +4 astetta silti) Etelä-Suomessa, mutta Lapissa alkuviikolla se saatetaan rikkoa siellä voimakkaasti silloin vaikuttavan Föhntuulen takia. Etelä-Suomessa jatkuu aluksi heikkotuulinen ja sumuinenkin sää ja lämpötila saattaa hieman laskea lähemmäksi nollaa ennen tiistain - keskiviikon leudompaa länsituulta. Voimakas pohjoistuuli tuo torstaiksi - lauantaiksi tilapäisen pakkasen (Voi olla, että -10 asteen tai kovempikin pakkanen jää edelleen saavuttamatta). Talven yritys jää hämmästyttävästi tälläkin kertaa todella surkeaksi, sillä heti sunnuntaina korkeapaineen siirryttyä Grönlannista Suomen lounais - eteläpuolelle länsituuli Föhn-ilmiön avustamana nostaa lämpötilat ehkä yllättävän nopeasti useita asteita nollan yläpuolelle. Siitä eteen päin näyttäisi taas jatkuvan pitkään leuto sää, jota voidaan luonnehtia tässä vaiheessa jo kevääksi...

Päivitys 11.2.2008 klo. 13:30: Lisään tähän lumipeitteen tilanteen katsauksen. Lumi on sulanut huomattavasti parin viime päivän aikana ja ajankohtaan nähden harvinaisen lumeton alue kattaa etelä- ja lounaisrannikon sekä laajasti myös läheistä sisämaata. Ilmatieteen laitoksen lumitilannekartasta (Huom., tämä ei arkistoidu) tämä ei taas kerran hahmotu oikealla tavalla. Viime keväänä pohdin syitä tähän kriittisessä analyysissäni.

Nyt tilanne on sama, kun sisämaahan satanut lumipeite on tyypilliseen keväiseen tapaan epätasainen sen vain parin viikon iästä huolimatta (kovat tuulet lumisateiden aikoina valmistivat pintaa epätasaiseksi); tuon ilmatieteen laitoksen kartan tumman sininen alue (10 - 25 cm) sisältää oikeasti 25 - 50% sulaneita laikkuja koko pinnasta etenkin lähellä vaalean sinistä aluetta ja vaalean sininen alue (1 - 10 cm) on käytännössä niin paljon sulanut, että suurin osa maasta on lumesta paljaana ja laajasti vain yksittäisiä pieniä lumilaikkuja on nähtävillä. Etenkin aukeat alueet ovat hyvin lumettomia. Kaikki tämä paljastuu hyvin tarkastelemalla monia alueen kelikameroita.

Jatkossa lumi sulaa vielä vähän ennen torstain - lauantain pakkasta. Pakkasjaksolla ei sada lunta hyvin vähäisiä lumikuuroja lukuun ottamatta ja lauhtuminen la - su ei tuo suuria määriä lunta. Lumettomuus siis vaivaa lumetonta aluetta myös tästä eteen päin pitkälle ensi viikkoon. Vielä ei kenties olla kaikkien aikojen lumettomimmassa helmikuun lumitilanteessa, mutta ainakin vuoden 1990 helmikuun tilanteen kanssa ollaan suunnilleen samassa ja se on hyvin merkittävää. Ensi viikolla lumettomuus saattaa olla todella kaikkien aikojen merkittävintä sulamisen edetessä, kun normaalisti oltaisiin vasta lähestymässä maaliskuun alun aikana saavutettavaa lumipeitemaksimia...



The February 2008 photo sets of the weather and nature follow-up are starting on my Flickr pages. The first period is from the start of the month to the 8th day's evening. Then winter tried to come with a very poor success and only occasional snowcovers appeared among the wet circumstances. However, there formed a big difference to the amount of snow between the southern coast and inland areas due to the novemberish warming effect of the unfrozen sea. A significant storm was at the 3rd day's night and morning and the whole storm low pressure was proceeded again by a strong sunrise colours at the first day. Here are the links; A B C.

About the future weather shortly; up to here +5 C hasn't been topped (about +4 C, though) narrowly in southern Finland, but that might be topped early next week in Lapland due to a strong Föhn wind affecting over there at that time. In southern Finland a calm and also foggy weather will continue at first and temperatures might drop a bit closer to zero C before a milder westerly wind at tuesday - wednesday. A strong northerly wind will bring a temporary frost for thursday - saturday (it may be, that -10 C or stronger frost will remain unreached furthermore). The trying of winter remains astonishingly even this time really poor, because immediately at sunday as a high pressure has been moved from Greenland to the southwestern - southern side of Finland a westerly wind with a help of Föhn phenomenon will cause temperatures to rise perhaps surprisingly fast several degrees above zero C. From there onwards there would seem to be continuing again for a long time mild weather, which can be considered at this phase already spring...

Update 11th of February 2008 at 1:30 PM: I add a snowcover situation report here. Snow has melted significantly over the past couple of days and a rare snowless area considering the time of the year covers southern and southwestern coasts and widely also nearby inland areas. Once more on the snow condition map (Note, this doesn't become archived) of Finnish Meteorological Institute this doesn't materialize in the right way. Last spring I pondered reasons for this in my critical analysis.

Now the situation is the same, as the snowcover fallen in inland areas is uneven in a typical way of spring despite its age of only couple of weeks (strong winds during the snowfalls made the surface uneven); that dark blue area (10 - 25 cm) on that map of Finnish Meteorological Institute contains really 25 - 50% worth of melted patches of the whole surface especially near the light blue area and the light blue area (1 - 10 cm) is in practice so melted, that most of the ground is free from snow and widely only single small snow patches are to be seen. Especially open areas are very snowless. All this is revealed well as observing many weather cameras of the area.

In the future the snow will melt yet a bit before the frost of thursday - saturday. It doesn't snow during the frosty period not counted for very minor snowshowers and the weather getting milder at sa - su doesn't bring big amounts of snow. So, the snowless area will be suffering from snowless conditions further as well from here long way into the next week. We aren't perhaps yet not quite in the most snowless February situation of all time, but we are approximately side by side with the snow condition of February 1990 and that is very significant. During the next week snowless conditions might be really the most significant of all time as the snow melt proceeds, when normally we would be just approaching the snowcover maximum being reached during early March...

Blogitrilogia muuttuu sää- ja luontoseurannaksi - The blog trilogy changes to the weather and nature follow-up

Nyt olen viimein päätynyt lopulliseen blogitrilogian päivitystapaan. Päätin niin, että lopetin Taivaankansi - Firmament ja Maan Povi - The Bosom Of The Earth blogien päivittämisen kokonaan. Jatkossa niiden tiedot kuvineen löytyvät vain Maisema - Landscape -blogin kautta linkkeinä ja tietysti suoraan ko. Flickr -sivuilta. Ajan puutteen vuoksi katsoin turhaksi päivittää kolmea blogia, kun saan samat tiedot esille vähemmällä vaivalla. Näin blogitrilogia ei ole enää blogitrilogia, vaan tästä lähtien käytän nimitystä sää- ja luontoseuranta.

Tässä on linkki äsken päivitettyyn Maisema - Landscape -blogiin, jota päivitän tästäkin lähtien puoli kuukautta kerrallaan. Se on sopivan mielekäs määrä päivittää yhdellä kertaa. En kerro tämän enempää muutoksista, koska voitte käydä tutkimassa asiaa ko. blogista. Kuukausien loppuun laitan edelleen viime kerralla esitellyn hydrologisen raportin. Nuo lopetetut blogit jäävät näkyviin. Saatan tehdä niihin vielä kielihuoltoa joskus.



Now I have finally ended up to the final updating method of the blog trilogy. I decided so, that I stopped updating the blogs Taivaankansi - Firmament and Maan Povi - The Bosom Of The Earth completely. In the future their information with photos are to be found only via Maisema - Landscape blog as links and of course directly from the Flickr pages in question. Due to the lack of time I found it unnecessary to update three blogs, when I am able to bring out the same information with less effort. In this way the blog trilogy isn't anymore the blog trilogy, but from now on I will use the name the weather and nature follow-up.

Here is the link to the moment ago updated Maisema - Landscape blog, which I will update from now on as well a half month at the time. That is a suitably sensible amount to update at once. I won't tell anymore than this about the changes, because you can go to check out the matter from the blog in question. To the ends of the months I will further place a hydrological report introduced last time. Those ended blogs will remain displayed. I might do yet a language maintenance to them sometimes.
