Niinhän siinä sitten kävi, että tiistaina 27.3. saavutettiin vielä uusi kaikkien aikojen korkein maaliskuun lämpötila. Se tapahtui Helsinki - Vantaan lentokentällä ja arvoksi tuli +17,5 astetta. Sen sijaan Helsingin keskustassa meren lähellä oli samaan aikaan edellistä päivää viileämpää, koska merituuli vaikutti aikaisempaa enemmän. Sama koski myös keskiviikkoa ja eilistä päivää. Lämpötilat jäivät kapealla etelärannikolla +10 ja +14 asteen välille, kun sisämaa-alueilla eteläisessä Suomessa oli eiliseen asti jopa n. +16 astetta iltapäivisin. Tänään tämä huikea maaliskuun "kesä" on päättymässä, sillä jo huomenna jäädään päivällä alle +10 asteen. Sunnuntaina lämpenee vähän, mutta ensi viikolla sää kylmenee selvästi. Nähtäväksi jää, kuinka ankara takatalvi on silloin mahdollinen...
Tämä päättyvä lämpöaalto on saanut nyt aikaiseksi ennen näkemättömän kasvukauden alun. Eilen varmistui siis se, että kasvukausi on alkanut Etelä-Suomessa. Koskaan ennen sitä ei ole tapahtunut maaliskuussa ainakaan tietääkseni. Kasvukauden alkamispäivä on tänä vuonna eteläisessä Suomessa paikkakunnasta riippuen n. 23. - 24.3. Huomisesta lähtien kasvukausi kuitenkin keskeytyy, koska vuorokauden keskilämpötilat laskevat alle +5 asteen. Nyt saattaa seurata jopa useita viikkoja kestävä jakso, jolloin kasvukausi on keskeytynyt. Normaalisti kasvukauden alku tapahtuisi huhtikuun lopulla.
Seuraavan lämpöaallon käynnistämää kasvukauden jatkumista ei kuitenkaan tule pitää kasvukauden varsinaisena alkuna sen erittäin pitkästä tauostakaan huolimatta, vaan kasvukausi jatkuu silloin siitä, mihin se nyt keskeytyy. Kasvukauden kehityksen astetta kuvaavan tehoisan lämpösumman arvo on nyt Etelä-Suomessa paikallisesti vaihdellen n. 5 - 15, johon se nyt jää joksikin ajaksi... Viime vuonna vastaavat arvot kertyivät aivan huhtikuun viimeisinä päivinä. Tämä lämmön määrä ilmeni silloin ja nytkin samalla tavalla mm. haavan (Populus tremula) ja raidan (Salix caprea) alkaneena kukintana ja muutamien pensas- ja puulajien avautuneina silmuina; kuten kuusamat (Lonicera sp.). Näin kasvukauden alkaminen näkyy tänä vuonna myös konkreettisesti erittäin omituisesta ajankohdasta huolimatta.
Lämpöaalto on ollut tietenkin eri tavoin yllättävä ja se on aiheuttanut minulle uusia ongelmia tällä viikolla. Se on sotkenut esim. blogieni päivittämisen ja valokuvaamiseni aikatauluja. Yhtäkkiä valokuvattavaa tuli paljon kasvienkin suhteen ja arboretumprojektissani teki samalla mieli aloittaa kevättyöt. Torstaina 29.3. kävinkin arboretumalueellani Sipoossa ja tein siellä lannoitustöitä. Muitakin kiireitä on ollut ja sen takia blogitrilogiakuvasarjojeni päivittäminen Flickr -sivuillani on ollut keskeytyksissä. Tänä viikonloppuna sillä rintamalla alkaa kuitenkin tapahtumaan uudestaan, joten kannattaa olla jo huomenna kärkkymässä tietoa siitä tässä blogissa. Huomenna tai sunnuntaina kerron kuvien kanssa siitä vuoden ensimmäisestä käynnistä arboretumiini. Kasvivalokuvaukseenikin liittyviä suunnitelmia alkaa olla pian julkaistavaksi ja kerron siitä sitten lähiaikoina...
So it was to happen, that there was reached yet another all time record of high March temperature in tuesday the 27th of March. It happened at the airport of Helsinki - Vantaa and the value was +17,5 C. As opposed to that at the center of Helsinki near the sea there was at the same time cooler than the day before, because the sea breeze affected more than before. The same applied to wednesday and yesterday as well. Temperatures remained between +10 C and +14 C by the narrow southern coast, as in inland areas of southern Finland there was even about +16 C during afternoons up to yesterday. Today this enormous March "summer" is ending, because allready tomorrow temperatures will stay under +10 C during the afternoon. In sunday the weather will warm up a bit, but during the next week the weather will become clearly colder. It remains to be seen, how severe wintry weather there will be possible...
This ending wave of warm weather has now resulted a beginning of the growing season never seen before. So there was confirmed yesterday, that the growing season has now beginned in southern Finland. It has never happened before in March as far as i know. The starting day of the growing season in southern Finland is this year according to the region about 23rd. - 24th of March. However from tomorrow onwards the growing season is interrupted, because the daily mean temperatures will sink below +5 C. Now there might be following even a several weeks long period, where the growing season is interrupted. Normally the growing season would start at the end of April.
However the continuing of the growing season as resulted by a new wave of warm weather mustn't be considered as an actual start of the growing season despite its even very long pause, but the growing season will be continuing there, where it's now interrupted. The value of the effective temperature sum describing the phase of the growing season is now in southern Finland locally varying about 5 to 15, where it will now stay for a some period of time... Last year the corresponding values were accumulated right in the last days of April. This amount of warmth appeared then and now as well in the same way as for example as beginned blooming of European Aspen (Populus tremula) and Goat Willow (Salix caprea) and opened puds of some shrub and tree species; as Honeysuckles (Lonicera sp.) amongst others. In this way the start of the growing season appears this year concretically as well despite the very odd time of the year.
The wave of warm weather has of course been surprising in various ways and it has been causing new problems for me during this week. It has messed my schedules of updating my blogs and my photographing for example. Suddenly there was a lot of to photograph concerning plants as well and at the same time i wanted to start spring tasks of my arboretum project. Therefore i visited my arboretum area in Sipoo (near Helsinki) in thursday the 29th of March and i did fertilizing tasks there. I've been busy otherwise as well and therefore the updating of the blog trilogy photo sets have been interrupted on my Flickr pages. However on that front things are starting to happen again during this weekend and therefore it is worth to wait for information allready tomorrow in this blog concerning that. Tomorrow or in sunday i will tell you with photos about that first visit of the year to my arboretum. Plans concerning my plant photographing are also starting to be ready for publishing soon and i will tell about that in the near future...
