Kukkaloistoa Hämeenlinnan Laivarantapuistossa. Mm. mukulabegoniat (Begonia X tuberhybrida) jatkavat kukintaa ilman hallavaurioita. Myös härmesalviat (Salvia farinacea) ovat elinvoimaisia. Reunassa oleva hopeavillakko (Senecio cineraria) kestää pakkasta - A flower display at the Laivaranta park in Hämeenlinna. For example Tuberous Begonias (Begonia X tuberhybrida) continue flowering without frost bites. Mealy Cup Sage (Salvia farinacea) is also vigorous. Silver Ragwort (Senecio cineraria) in the edge can withstand frost.


Yllä on kuvasarja Hämeenlinnan kesäkukista, jotka ilmentävät tällä hetkellä hyvin ajankohdan poikkeuksellisen (tosin tällaiseen on jo totuttu kahtena edellisenäkin syksynä) lämpimiä olosuhteita. Kuvat on otettu lauantaina 29.9. Tämä kuvasarja näyttää selkeästi sen, kuinka syyskuun aikana olleet harvat hallatilanteet olivat Etelä-Suomen sisämaassakin niin heikkoja, että laajoilla alueilla ei ole ilmennyt edes arkojen kasvien hallavaurioita ollenkaan. Yksittäisiä alueita lukuunottamatta ilman lämpötilat 2 m:n korkeudella eivät ole vielä kertaakaan laskeneet pakkaselle. Siten esim. puiden suojaamat kasvustot ovat säästyneet pakkaselta kokonaan. Etelärannikolla halla vieraili heikkona vain 1 - 3 yönä alavien maiden aukeilla paikoilla ja aivan veden äärellä ym. suojaisilla paikoilla ei edes niilläkään.

On siis taas syytä tähdentää, että hallanarkojenkaan kesäkukkien kasvatuskausi ei ole ohi näiden olosuhteiden ansiosta. Jatkossa hallaa ei ole vieläkään tulossa, joten armonaikaa on hyvin jäljellä myös arboretumprojektissani. Näin hallattomissa olosuhteissa, esim. tuossa lauantain kuvasarjassa olevat valkomulperi (Morus alba) ja kolmioka (Gleditsia triacanthos) kehittävät ruskansa ensimmäistä kertaa kunnolla loppuun saakka, kun lehdet eivät palellu ennen sitä. Vaikka viime ja toissa syksyt olivat erittäin lämpimiä nekin, niin silloin halla ehti tehdä parina syyskuun yönä paljon enemmän tuhoa kuin tänä vuonna lyhyiden kylmien jaksojen takia. Tämän syyskuun hallattomuus on monilla alueilla merkille pantava asia, kun mietitään ilmastonmuutoksen vaikututuksia jo tämän hetken ilmastossa...

Tänään lännestä saapunut pieni matalapaine on epävakaistanut sään ja kostean lämpimässä ilmamassassa on tänä aamuna esiintynyt yllättävän paljon ukkosta ympäri eteläistä Suomea. Päivälämpötilat kohosivat viikonloppuna jälleen paikoin lähelle +20 astetta, joka on todella poikkeuksellista näin myöhään. Yölämpötilat ovat kuitenkin olleet lauantaista lähtien vielä hämmästyttävemmissä lukemissa; laajoilla alueilla etenkin etelärannikon läheisyydessä minimilämpötilat ovat olleet +10 - +13 astetta. Terminen kesä on edelleen vahvana päällä.

Tällä viikolla tavanomaista selvästi lämpimämpi sää jatkuu (viikonloppua vähän viileämpänä) idässä olevan korkeapaineen avustuksella, kun se kierrättää kaakosta edelleen ilmaa Suomeen. Lämpimän ja kostean ilmamassan takaa viikon mittaan myös Suomen eteläpuolelle muodostuva pieni matalapaine (se saattaa siirtyä loppuviikolla Etelä-Suomen yli pohjoiseen), mutta viikon lopulla ilmamassa näyttää viilenevän vähän siihen malliin, että ainakin sisämaassa terminen syksy alkaisi vihdoinkin pysyvästi... Pilvet pitävät kuitenkin yöt lämpiminä (yli +5 asteessa), vaikka tuulet ovat enimmäkseen heikkoja.

Tässä vaiheessa Suomenlahden etelärannikkoa lämmittävä vaikutus alkaa näkyä yhä selvemmin jo iltapäivänkin lämpötiloissa. Siitä syksyn etenemisen näkee lämmöstä huolimatta pidentyvien öiden lisäksi. Syksyn eteneminen vaikuttaa myös niin, että sumut ja sumupilvet yleistyvät etenkin sisämaassa näissä kosteissa ja lämpimissä ilmamassoissa.



Above there is a photo series about the seasonal summer flowers of Hämeenlinna, which are displaying well the unseasonably (though, we have been used to these kinds of circumstances allready during the last two autumns) warm conditions of the season's phase. The photos are taken at the 29th of September. This photo series is showing well the fact, how the rare ground frost situations even in inland areas of southern Finland were so weak, that in large areas there haven't appeared frost damages of even sensitive plants at all. Not counted for single areas temperatures at the height of 2 metres haven't dropped below zero C yet not for even a single time. Therefore for example plantings sheltered by trees have been saved from frosts completely. By the southern coast ground frost visited weakly only during 1 to 3 nights at the open areas of the low grounds and just by the water or other such sheltered places not even there.

So, there is again the need for remainding, that the cultivation season of even frost sensitive seasonal flowers isn't over yet thanks to these circumstances. In the future there isn't coming ground frost furthermore, so there is plenty of grace days in my arboretum project. During such a frostless conditions for example those White Mulberries (Morus alba) and Honey Locusts (Gleditsia triacanthos) of the previous photo series are forming their fall colours for the first time properly to the end, as the leaves are not going to be killed by a frost. Allthough the last two autumns were very warm as well, ground frost had time then to make much more damage than this year during couple of September nights due to short cold periods. This September's frostless conditions are a notable feature, when thought about the influence of the climate change allready in the climate of the present time...

Today a small low pressure arrived from the west have made the weather unstable and this morning in the humid and warm air mass there appeared thunder in surprizingly large numbers around southern Finland. Temperatures rose again near +20 C locally during the weekend, which is very unseasonable at this late phase. However the night temperatures have been even at more amazing values since saturday; in large areas especially near southern coast the minimum temperatures have been between +10 C and +13 C. The so called thermal summer is further on strongly.

During this week the much warmer than average weather will continue (as a bit cooler than during the weekend) as helped by the eastern high pressure, as it will circulate further air from the southeast into Finland. The warm and humid air mass is quaranteed during the week also by a small low pressure forming in the southern side of Finland (it might move across southern Finland to the north at the week's end), but during the latter part of the week the air mass seems to be cooling a little in such a way, that a thermal autumn would finally start permanently at least in inland areas... However clouds will keep nights warm (over +5 C), allthough winds will be mainly weak.

At this phase the warming effect of The Gulf Of Finland towards the southern coast will start to appear furthermore clearer on the afternoon temperatures as well. From that one can see the proceeding of the autumn despite the warmth in addition to the nights getting longer. The proceeding of the autumn is affecting also in the way, that fog conditions and stratus clouds are getting more common especially in inland areas during these warm and humid air masses.
