Joulun lumitilanne - The snow condition of the Christmas

Edellisessä merkinnässä arvelin tämän Joulun olevan suuressa osassa Suomea lumeton. Sää lauhtui lähes ennusteiden mukaan, mutta tämän hetken tilanteen mukaan ainakin osittain valkoinen Joulu on nyt turvattu plusasteista huolimatta Etelä- ja Keski-Suomeen. Lapissa on paikoin yli 50cm lunta. Noin pari senttiä uutta lunta satoi Etelä- ja Keski-Suomeen pitkän lumettoman kauden jälkeen 19. ja 20. päivinä. Viime päivinä ko. lumen sulaminen on ollut hidasta, vaikka lämpötila on ajoittain ollut jopa n. +5 asteen tienoilla. Tämä on johtunut Föhntuulesta, joka on aiheuttanut kuivaa ja selkeää säätä. Tällöin auringon hyvin vähäisen vaikutuksen takia lämpö on ulossäteillyt maan pinnasta keskellä päivääkin. Maa myös jäätyi muutamia senttejä 19. päivän tienoilla olleen pakkasen vuoksi, joka sekin on näissä oloissa hidastanut osaltaan vähäisenkin lumen sulamista. Lumipeite on kuitenkin epäyhtenäinen; lumettomia laikkuja ja alueita on runsaasti ympäri Etelä- ja Keski-Suomea.

Jatkossa näyttää siltä, että sateita tulee ensi yönä ainakin Keski-Suomen alueella osittain lumena myrskyisän matalapaineen liikkuessa Suomen yli kaakkoon. Etelä-Suomessa sateita ei ehkä tule lainkaan tai ne olisivat hyvin vähäisiä. Sen jälkeen Joulupäivänä koko maassa olisi pakkasta, mutta vielä ennen vuodenvaihdetta lännestä ja lounaasta tulisi hyvin leutoa ilmaa, joka voi sulattaa Etelä- ja Keski-Suomessa laajoilta alueilta kaikki lumet Uudeksi Vuodeksi...



In the previous post i estimated, that this Christmas would be snowless in most parts of Finland. The weather got mild allmost according to the forecasts, but according to the situation of this moment at least partially white Christmas is quaranteed in southern and central Finland despite the temperatures above zero C. In Lapland there are locally more than 50 centimetres of snow. About couple of centimetres of fresh snow fell in southern and central Finland after a long snowless period during the 19th and 20th days. During last days melting of this snow has been slow, allthough the temperatures have been even around +5 C. This has been a result of the Föhn wind, which has caused dry and clear weather. Therefore due to a very small affection of the sun the warmth on the ground's surface has radiated away even at noon. The ground also freezed couple of centimetres deep due to frosts around the 19th day, which has also slowed down the melting of even a minor amount of snow. However the snowcover is uneven; there are lot of snowless patches and areas around southern and central Finland.

In the future it seems, that some precipitation will be coming partly in the form of snow during next night at least in central Finland as a stormy lowpressure is crossing Finland to the southeast. In southern Finland there might be no precipitation or there would be very little amount of it. After that at the Christmas Day there would be frost in whole Finland, but yet before the turn of the year there would be coming very mild air from the west and southwest, which can melt all snow away from large areas in southern and central Finland until New Year...

Parhaillaan Etelä- ja Keski-Suomeen on saapunut sadealue, joka eteläisessä Suomessa sataa kokonaan vetenä. Lämpötila on samalla vielä noususuunnassa, jolloin ensi yönä etelän lämpötilat saattavat nousta jopa +5 asteen tienoille. Tämä tietää kyytiä vähäisille lumille. Huomenna heikkenevä säärintama em. matalapaineen jälkipuolella saattaa tuoda vähäisiä lumikuuroja myös etelään, kun sää alkaa pakastumaan. Muutoin ainakin eteläisen Suomen osittain valkea Joulu on nyt viime metreillä uhattuna...

At this very moment a precipitation area have arrived to the southern and central Finland, which comes in southern Finland entirely in the form of rain. The temperature is at the same time yet rising, so next night the temperatures in the south might rise even around +5 C. This means fast melting of the remaining little amount of snow. Tomorrow a weakening weatherfront in the afterside of the mentioned lowpressure might bring slight snowshowers also to the south, as the weather will start to freeze. Otherwise the partially white Christmas is now endangered in the last few meters at least in southern Finland...
