Kentuckynkahvipuu - Kentucky Coffeetree (Gymnocladus dioica)
Siemenet täysin turvonneet - The seeds completely swollen.

Alimmainen laji on näiden joukossa erikoinen poikkeus, sillä sen siementen turpoamisen yhteydessä siemenistä irtosi tyypillisesti ohut kalvo, jota nähdään alimmassa kuvassa.

Now every seed is sown and pictures taken of the swollen seeds. I sowed Honey Locust and Kentucky Coffeetree this morning before going to work, because during yesterday evening my schedule changed as i wanted to photograph very wonderfull sunset colours. So above there are the photos of those soaked seeds, which swell the most. The lowest species is a peculiar exception among these, because during its swelling there got off a thin coating from the seeds in a typical way. It is seen in the lowest picture. In the second lowest picture the coating was just peeling off. In these seed pictures we see also the damaging marks i mentioned earlier; cuts for example. Associating with the soaking i mention yet, that it was important to change the water in the vessels every few hours during the treatment, because there are coming off many kinds of waste products from the seeds into the water.

To the end i mention about the weather, that today there is yet summery warm day in southern Finland and the temperature will rise in the way of yesterday even above +20 C in inland areas. These readings are at this time of the year record breaking high. We have almost been getting use to the fact recently, that a wave of warm weather will bring records every now and then. A clear sign of the climate change?! In the latter part of this week though, there is a threat of late wintry weather; in the weekend there might be coming snow even in southernmost Finland, but a windy and plentyfully cloudy weather will keep the possible night frosts minor. If there will be snowing, then the snow doesn't stay long on the ground anymore at this time and snow is clearly a lesser harm than night frosts to the perennials started to grow. In fact a profuse amount of snow is sheltering from the frosts. Therefore one doesn't have to be especially worried due to even this period of cold weather despite the plants growing further about three weeks ahead of an usual schedule. Soon after the weekend there is set to be a significant warming in the forecast as well... So the setback will remain very temporary.
