Eilen 4.7. oli taas taimistotöiden aika. Tällä kertaa vaihdoin kuvissa näkyvät vaahterat isompiin purkkeihin. Samoin tein neljälle talven yli säilyneelle kentuckynkahvipuulle (Gymnocladus dioica), joista en muistanut ottaa tällä kertaa kuvaa. Samalla siistin aluetta poistamalla kuolleita kasveja purkeista ja valikoimalla niistä vanhaa multaa säilytettäväksi uudelleen käyttöä varten. Pari viikkoa sitten sisältä siirtämäni taimet laitoin myös nyt aurinkoiselle kohdalle ennen niiden purkkeihin laittamista. Tällä viikolla lämpötilat ovat olleet päivisin n. +25 astetta, joten tein viimeiseksi kaikille kasveille runsaan kastelun. Edellisenä päivänä tosin pari pientä ukkoskuuroa oli sattunut kohdalle, koska sademittarissa oli 12 mm:n sademäärä. Se ei kuitenkaan ollut riittävästi kaikille purkkitaimille, vaikka tänä viikonloppuna on odotettavissa runsaasti sade- ja ukkoskuuroja.

Kasvukausi on lämpimien ilmojen ansiosta edelleen 1 - 2 viikkoa edellä tavanomaiseen aikatauluun nähden eteläisessä Suomessa. Tämä ilmenee nyt mm. hovijasmikkeen (Philadelphus pubescens), maitohorsman (Epilobium angustifolium) ja mesiangervon (Filipendula ulmaria) täytenä kukintana. Maanviljelyssä kasvukautta ei voida arvioda samalla tavalla suhteessa lämpötilaan (selitin tässä syyn keväällä), mutta parhaillaan Etelä-Suomen rypsipellot (Brassica rapa subsp. oleifera) kukkivat keltaisimmillaan tähän (heinäkuussa 2005 Sipoossa ottamani kuva) tyyliin.

Ensi viikolla pyrin tekemään käynnin itse arboretumalueella pitkän tauon jälkeen ja mahdollisesti otan runsaasti sekä sieltä että tältä taimistopaikaltani kuvia kasvien tilanteista...

Yesterday at the 4th of July it was time again for the nursery tasks. This time i changed the Maples in the photos into larger containers. I did the same also to the overwintered four Kentucky Coffeetrees (Gymnocladus dioica), which i forgot to photograph this time. At the same time i cleaned up the place as removing dead plants from the containers and choosing old compost from them to use it again. I also placed the plants i removed from indoors couple of weeks ago now in a sunny spot before they will be placed into containers. During this week the daytime temperatures have been around +25 C, so therefore i did lastly a profuse watering to all plants. Though, the day before there came couple of small thundershowers at the place, because there was 12 millimetres of precipitation in the rain-gauge. However that wasn't enough to all container plants, allthough there will be plenty of rain- and thundershowers at this weekend.

Due to the warm weather the growing season is further 1 - 2 weeks ahead of the average schedule in southern Finland. That is observed now for example from the full blooming of Hoary Mock Orange (Philadelphus pubescens), Fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium) and Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria). In agriculture the growing season cannot be estimated in the same way according to temperatures (i explained the reason here in the spring), but currently Turnip Rape fields (Brassica rapa subsp. oleifera) of southern Finland are blossoming at their most yellow in this (the photograph taken by me in July 2005 at Sipoo; a small village near Helsinki) way.

During the next week i'll aim to make a visit to the actual arboretum area after a long break and possibly i will take plenty of photos of conditions of the plants both in there and at this nursery place...
