Eilen kävin taimistollani katsomassa tilannetta siitä, mitä lajeja alan siirtämään arboretumalueelleni ensi kevään istutuksia varten. Samalla kuvasin yllä olevan kuvasarjan tähän mennessä parhaimmista ruskatilanteista ko. paikalla. Edelliseen kuvasarjaan verrattuna ruska on huipentumassa joillakin lajeilla, mutta lämpöaallon takia monilla lajeilla värit ovat ilmaantuneet hitaasti ja edelleen on myös kokonaan kesäasussa olevia lajeja. Otan niistä vielä kuvia lokakuussa, sillä sääennusteiden valossa on mahdollista, että arimmatkin niistä säilyvät hämmästyttävästi ilman pakkasvaurioita niin pitkälle "syksyyn" näinkin hallanaralla kasvupaikalla. Joka tapauksessa tämä on ensimmäinen kerta kasvienkasvatusurallani, kun kaikki kasvini ovat selvinneet käytännössä ilman mainittavia pakkasvaurioita koko syyskuusta.

Laitoi tuon "syksyn" lainausmerkkeihin, koska tänäkin "syksynä" kahden edellisen tapaan lämpöaallot pitävät vielä kesää yllä termisen määritelmän mukaan; vuorokauden keskilämpötilat ovat yli +10 astetta. Tosin tänä vuonna ne ehtivät olla syyskuun alussa useita päiviä alle ko. rajan, joka vaikuttaa määritelmään... Joka tapauksessa tällaiset määritelmät aiheuttavat tänäkin vuonna erikoisia ja vaikeita tilanteita määritellä vuodenaikoja tarkasti ja tieteellisesti. Haluan tuoda tämän ulottuvuuden selvästi esille jälleen, koska jo nyt ja etenkin tulevaisuudessa nämä määritelmät paljastavat ilmastonmuutoksen etenemistä lahjomattomasti ja yhä selvemmin. Jo nytkin on hämmentävää ihmetellä sitä, että vielä lokakuun alussa olisi kesä! Tämä voi johtaa tulevien vuosikymmenten kuluessa siihen, että näitä määritelmiä joudutaan uusimaan. Näin ei tuntuisi kummalliselta nimittää esim. lokakuuta kesäkuukaudeksi :)...



Yesterday I visited my nursery to check situations for the the case, that which plants I will start to remove to my arboretum to wait for the plantings of the next spring. At the same time I photographed the upper photo series about the best fall colour situations up to the present moment at the place in question. As compared to the previous photo series the fall colours are peaking on some species, but due to the warm period fall colours have been emerging slowly on many species and there are yet further species with a complete summer foliage as well. I will take photos of them in October, because in the light of weather forecasts it is possible, that even the most sensitive ones of them will go amazingly through into such a late "autumn" without frost bites at all in such a frost sensitive locality. In any case this is the first time in my plant cultivation career, that all of my plants have been safed practically from all mentionable frost damages for the whole September.

I placed that "autumn" in quotes, because during this "autumn" as well in the way of the two previous ones the waves of warm air are keeping summer yet alive according to the thermal definition; the daily average temperatures are over +10 C. Though, they had time to be under that limit for several days at the beginning of September, which is affecting to the definition... In any case these kinds of definitions are causing also during this year peculiar and difficult situations to identify seasons in a sharp and scientific way. I want to bring out this dimension again clearly, because allready now and especially in the future these definitions are revealing in a unbribable and furthermore clearer way the proceeding of the climate change. Allready now as well it is confusing to wonder about the fact, that even at the beginning of October it would be summer! This might lead during future decades to the fact, that these definitions will be forced to be changed. In that way it wouldn't be peculiar to call for example October as a summer month :)...
