Huomenna on jälleen voimakkaan matalapaineen aika. Ilmatieteenlaitos on antanut asiasta tiedotteen sivullaan. Lounaasta saapuva matalapaine voimistaa tuulet mahdollisesti jopa tuhoa aiheuttaviksi Etelä- ja Itä-Suomessa päivän aikana. Mukana tulevat sateet ovat paikoin rankkoja yöllä - alkupäivällä ja ukkosen mahdollisuuttakin on. Ilmamassa on ajankohtaan nähden lämmintä; lämpötilat ovat yötä päivää +10 asteen yläpuolella (päivällä lähellä +15 astetta).
Eilen oli myös paikoin ukkosta eteläisessä Suomessa. Hallaakin oli saman päivän yönä, mutta ainoastaan eteläisen Suomen itäosien sisämaassa, jossa oli sen verran selkeää ja tyyntä kahden sadealueen välissä. Pääkaupunkiseutu ja kasvien kasvatuspaikkani säästyivät hallalta, kuten aikaisemmin arvelin. Hyvä homma!
Jatkossakaan ei tarvitse pelätä hallaa, koska ilmamassa lämpenee edelleen viikonloppuna ja alkuviikolla. Samalla sää poutaantuu korkeapaineen asettuessa Suomen kaakkois - itäpuolelle; päivälämpötilat voivat ylittää +15 asteen selvästi. Näin näyttää alkavan takakesä eli intiaanikesä, kuten aikaisemmin arvelin. Ensi viikon mittaan korkeapaine näyttää valtaavan Etelä-Suomen ehkä pitkäksikin ajaksi loppuviikolta lähtien. Saa nähdä minkälaisina ilmamassat silloin ilmenevät. Sään joka tapauksessa tyyntyessä, kasvaa sumujen ja sumupilvien mahdollisuus, jos ilmamassa on kosteaa. Näin voi olla, jos lämmin keskileveysasteiden ilmamassa jää eteläisen Suomen ylle alkuviikon jälkeen. Jos ilmamassa kuivuu (ja sää on siten selkeää öisinkin), niin hallavaara voi kasvaa sisämaassa pienenkin ilmamassan kylmenemisen seurauksena.
Nyt vaikuttaa kuitenkin siltä, että kasvit ovat saamassa upeaa lisäaikaa talveen valmistautumiseen. Lämpö saa keskeneräisen kasvun vielä nopeutumaan ja hallattomat olosuhteet pitävät pakkasvaurioilta selvinneet lajit edelleen elossa ja kukoistuksessa. Näin on esim. monien kesäkukkien, syyshortensioiden (Hydrangea paniculata "Grandiflora") punertavien kukkaterttujen ja arboretumprojektini arkojen lajien kanssa. Lauantain myrskyn jälkeen kannattaa siis vielä siistiä ja hoitaa kesäkukkia, joita viime aikojen sateet ja tuulet ovat haitanneet eikä ajatella vielä niiden pois korjaamista. Ruskan etenemiseen lämmin jakso todennäköisesti vaikuttaa hidastavasti ja sitä edesauttaa myös runsaiden sateiden vaikutus; maan kosteus ja huuhtoutuneet ravinteet.
Tomorrow it is time again for a strong low pressure. Finnish Meteorological Institute has given an announcement on its pages (unfortunately not in english) associating with it. The low pressure arriving from the southwest will cause the winds to pick up possibly even to damaging forces in southern and eastern Finland during the day. The rains coming along are locally heavy during the night - early part of the day and there is some risk for thunder as well. The air mass is unseasonally warm; temperatures are night and day over +10 C (at daytime near +15 C).
Yesterday there was also thunder locally in southern Finland. There was ground frost as well at the same day's night, but only in the eastern parts of southern Finland's inland areas, where there was enough clear and calm between two precipitation areas. The capital city area and my plant cultivation areas were safed from the ground frost as I suspected earlier. Splendid!
In the future as well there will be no need for fearing a ground frost, because the air mass will get warmer during the weekend and early part of the week. At the same time the weather will get rainless, as a high pressure settles in the souteastern - eastern side of Finland; afternoon temperatures may get over +15 C clearly. In this way there seems to be starting a so called indian summer, as I suspected earlier. During the starting week the high pressure seems to invade southern Finland perhaps even for a long time from the latter part of the week onwards. It remains to be seen, what kinds the air masses will then appear. As the weather will calm down in any case, a risk for fogs and stratus clouds will get higher, if the air mass will remain humid. This may be the case, if the warm middle latitude air mass will remain over southern Finland after the week's start. If the air mass will dry up (and the weather will be clear also at nights), then a risk for ground frost will get higher in inland areas due to even a slight cool down of the air mass.
However now it seems that way, that the plants are getting a fine preparation time for the winter. The warmth will cause the unfinished growth to accelerate its speed and the frostless conditions will keep the species safed from the frost bites to live and bloom further. This will be the case for example with many seasonal summer flowers, with the reddish flower recemes of Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata "Grandiflora") and with the sensitive species of my arboretum project. So, after the saturday's storm it's worth to tidy up and take care of the summer's seasonal flowers, which have been harmed by the recent rains and winds and not to think removing of them yet. The warm period will propably influence to the fall colours as slowing down their appearing and that is also helped by the influence of the heavy rains; moisture of the soil and flushed nutrients.
