Tänä iltana leuto sää on vielä huipentumassa lämpötilojen ollessa parin lähimmän tunnin aikana jopa +6 asteen tienoilla eteläisimmässä Suomessa. Kylmä rintama etenee kuitenkin jo puoleen yöhön mennessä Suomen eteläpuolelle ja sitä seuraavan korkeapaineen selänteen selkeä sää saa lämpötilat laskemaan ensi yönä -5 asteen vaiheille. Näin mahdollisuus tehdä viikonloppuna istutustöitä poistuu täpärästi maan jäätyessä uudelleen.
Huomisen jälkeen vähän nollan yli päästään vielä sunnuntain sadealueen yhteydessä, mutta jo silloin saadaan etenkin sisämaassa enemmän lumi- kuin vesisadetta. Ensi viikolla talvinen sää näyttää vahvistuvan ja epävakaisena pysyvä sää saattaa tietää etelärannikollekin useita senttejä lunta; alkuviikolla Etelä-Suomeen ulottuu sadealueita lämpötilojen pysyessä enimmäkseen pakkasen puolella...
Viime vuodesta poiketen talvi olisi alkamassa nyt melko tavanomaiseen tapaan pysyvästi ja puisto - puutarhatöille jouduttaisiin jättämään hyvästit ensi kevääseen asti. En silti nytkään ihmettele, jos esim. sydäntalvella (tammikuussa) tulisi usean viikon mittainen erittäin leuto jakso, jolloin maakin sulaisi kokonaan - lähes kokonaan. Ilmastonmuutoksen edetessä ankarakin talvi saattaa missä vaiheessa tahansa ns. talvikautta muuttua pitkäksi syksyksi / kevääksi.
Päivitys klo. 20:50; Tuo tämän iltainen kylmeneminen on ollut erittäin nopeaa. Lämpötilat putosivat kylmän rintaman ylityksen jälkeen vain n. kahdessa tunnissa yli +5 asteesta jopa pakkaselle. Esim. nämä kolme Ilmatieteenlaitoksen linkkiä A B C osoittavat tämän hyvin (tilanne näkyy vain huomiseen iltaan asti). Sateet muuttuivat samassa yhteydessä vedestä lumeksi kuin taikaiskusta. Kelikameroista sen voi havaita katsomalla tämän illan kuvia parin tunnin ajalta (ne kuvat säilyvät vain n. puoleen yöhön asti); katso esim. Hämeenlinna klo. 18:00 eteenpäin.
During this evening the mild weather is yet peaking as temperatures are even around +6 C during the nearest couple of hours in southernmost Finland. However, a cold front will proceed allready until the midnight to the southern side of Finland and the clear weather of a ridge of high pressure will cause the temperatures to drop around -5 C during the next night. Therefore the possibility to do planting tasks during the weekend will narrowly be moved away as the soil will freez again.
After tomorrow temperatures will rise a bit over zero C along with the sunday's precipitation area, but allready then especially in inland areas there will come more snowing than rain. During the next week the wintry weather appears to be strengthening and the weather remaining unstable might mean several centimetres of snow also to the southern coast; at the early part of the week there will reach precipitation areas into southern Finland as temperatures will remain mostly freezing...
As opposed to the last winter, now the winter would be starting now in a rather typical way permanently and we would have to say goodbye to the park - garden tasks until the next spring. Though, I won't wonder even now about the fact, if there would come for example in the middle of winter (in January) a several weeks long very mild period, where the soil as well would melt completely - allmost completely. As the climate change is proceeding, even a severe winter might turn at any point of a so called winter season into a long autumn / spring.
Update at 8:50 PM; That cooling of this evening has been very fast. Temperatures dropped after the cold front crossing only during about two hours from over +5 C to even freezing. For example these three links A B C of the Finnish Meteorological Insitute are showing that well (the situation will be seen only until tomorrow evening). The precipitation turned at the same time from rain to snow as by a magic touch. We can observe that from the weather cameras by looking pictures of this evening in the time period of few hours (those pictures will be available only until about midnight); look for example Hämeenlinna from 6.00 PM onwards.
