Yllä oleva kuvapari kertoo tämän päivän puuhista siementeni kanssa. Alemmassa kuvassa on liotuksessa "isokohtalonpensas" (Clerodendrum trichotomum), kalukkipensas (Calycanthus floridus var. laevigatus) ja ”talventuoksupensas” (Chimonanthus praecox), jotka laitoin tänään liotukseen. Niiden kylvö tapahtuu 1 - 2 päivän kuluttua. Kellopensas (Enkianthus campanulatus) ei tarvitse liotusta, mutta kylvän sen samaan aikaan noiden muiden kanssa. Nämä lajit ovat hyvin talvenarkoja pensaita, jotka otan tässä vaiheessa kokeiluun. Jumaltenpuu (Ailanthus altissima) menee vielä kylmäkäsittelyyn tuon saman liotuksen jälkeen.

Ylemmässä kuvassa on samettisumakin (Rhus hirta) siementen esivalmisteluja niiden kuumavesiskarifiointia varten; kylvö tehdään heti sen jälkeen. Hieroin hedelmäkuoret sormieni välissä pois, mikä oli likaista hommaa, kuten kuvasta näkyy. Tässä linkissä on hyviä ohjeita skarifioinnista ja muistakin siementen esikäsittelyistä. Teen kuumavesiskarifioinnin ensimmäistä kertaa elämässäni ja odotan sitten jännityksellä tulosta kylvämisen jälkeen myöhemmin keväällä... Teen skarifioinnin ja kylvön samaan aikaan noiden ym. lajien kylvöjen kanssa.

Päivitin näihin siemenkuvasarjoihin (A B) em. toimenpiteet. Lisäsin myös siemenkuvat jumaltenpuusta ja samettisumakista sarjaan 1.

The upper pair of photos is telling today's doings with my seeds. In the lower photo there are in the soaking Peanut Butter Shrub / Harlequin Glory Bower (Clerodendrum trichotomum), Sweet Shrub / Carolina Allspice / Strawberry Shrub / Bubby Bush (Calycanthus floridus var. laevigatus) and Wintersweet (Chimonanthus praecox), which I placed into the soaking today. Their sowing will happen in 1 - 2 days time. Redvein Enkianthus (Enkianthus campanulatus) doesn't need the soaking, but I will sow it at the same time with those others. These species are very winter sensitive shrubs (in Finland), which I take into an experimentation at this phase. Tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima) will go yet to a cold treatment after that same soaking.

In the upper photo there are pre-preparations of Staghorn Sumac (Rhus hirta) seeds for their hot water scarification; the sowing is done immediately after that. I rubbed the fruit coats away between my fingers, which was a dirty job, as you can see from the photo. In this link there are good instructions about the scarification and other pre-treatments of the seeds. I am making the hot water scarification for the first time in my life and I will then wait the result after sowing with exitement later in the spring... I will make the scarification and the sowing at the same time with the sowings of those mentioned species.
