Havukasvilajikkeita uuden ajan kasvienkäyttöä varten - Conifer cultivars for the new era's plant use

This weekend I have been surfing the internet, as watching plant related pages. I want now to bring out the pages of one nursery situated in Illinois USA; Rich's Foxwillow Pines Nursery. This nursery has specialized itself to coniferous trees and shrubs and especially to their peculiar cultivars. Many of those are such cultivars, which aren't existing here in Finland... Yet! So, attention Finland's nursery men and women; Here are recommended for trying out a lot of cultivars, which must be included more into Finland's park and garden culture, both for public places and into sale for private gardens. You see, many of these are suitable for very small gardens as well.

I went through these lists of the nursery and I show you now here my own favourites (which have photos; there are more cultivars on the text list), which I especially wish to be more common or to be taken into use in Finland. At this phase I point out also the fact, that in snowless winter conditions of the future like this one, for example these kinds of conifer cultivars are necessary refreshments of the environment due to their habits, textures and colours. So, they should be used a lot and inventively; rather to be fitted together in groups in an ornamantal way either with each other or with broadleave trees and shrubs. Many of these cultivars are also excellently good and showy as single tree - shrub specimens. The selection is very profuse and only imagination will be as a limit when using them.

Here are my own favourites (check also others on the lists, like broadleave trees): White Fir cultivars; Abies concolor "Candicans", Abies concolor "Compacta", Abies concolor "Kinky", a Korean Fir cultivar; Abies koreana "Silberlocke", Subalpine Fir cultivars; Abies lasiocarpa "Arizonica Compacta", Nordmann Fir; Abies nordmanniana, a Spanish Fir cultivar; Abies pinsapo "Aurea".

Some of these have been familiar here (in Finland) before as well, but many are completely unknown. A part of them are also more or less winter sensitive, but due to the climate change, trying them out must be undertaken bravely and that must be continued. Previously from those mentioned winter sensitive ones have been considered to be even by the southern coast (in Finland) at least the following; Nordmann Fir, Nootka Falcecypress, Dawn Redwood, Golden-larch, Lacebark Pine, Japanese Red Pine, European Black Pine, Japanese White Pine and Himalayan Pine.

To the end I remind of the fact, that as the climate change proceeds, there must be payed a great attention to a new kind of and versitale plant use. Holding on only to old ways is both indifference towards changing circumstances and wasting possibilities brought by the change. These kinds of conifer plants are one part of the new era's plant use. I might bring out in the future more these kinds of plant introductions from the internet, because my own plant photography project doesn't include these kinds of species and cultivars unknown in Finland.
