Nyt olen viimein päätynyt lopulliseen blogitrilogian päivitystapaan. Päätin niin, että lopetin Taivaankansi - Firmament ja Maan Povi - The Bosom Of The Earth blogien päivittämisen kokonaan. Jatkossa niiden tiedot kuvineen löytyvät vain Maisema - Landscape -blogin kautta linkkeinä ja tietysti suoraan ko. Flickr -sivuilta. Ajan puutteen vuoksi katsoin turhaksi päivittää kolmea blogia, kun saan samat tiedot esille vähemmällä vaivalla. Näin blogitrilogia ei ole enää blogitrilogia, vaan tästä lähtien käytän nimitystä sää- ja luontoseuranta.
Tässä on linkki äsken päivitettyyn Maisema - Landscape -blogiin, jota päivitän tästäkin lähtien puoli kuukautta kerrallaan. Se on sopivan mielekäs määrä päivittää yhdellä kertaa. En kerro tämän enempää muutoksista, koska voitte käydä tutkimassa asiaa ko. blogista. Kuukausien loppuun laitan edelleen viime kerralla esitellyn hydrologisen raportin. Nuo lopetetut blogit jäävät näkyviin. Saatan tehdä niihin vielä kielihuoltoa joskus.
Now I have finally ended up to the final updating method of the blog trilogy. I decided so, that I stopped updating the blogs Taivaankansi - Firmament and Maan Povi - The Bosom Of The Earth completely. In the future their information with photos are to be found only via Maisema - Landscape blog as links and of course directly from the Flickr pages in question. Due to the lack of time I found it unnecessary to update three blogs, when I am able to bring out the same information with less effort. In this way the blog trilogy isn't anymore the blog trilogy, but from now on I will use the name the weather and nature follow-up.
Here is the link to the moment ago updated Maisema - Landscape blog, which I will update from now on as well a half month at the time. That is a suitably sensible amount to update at once. I won't tell anymore than this about the changes, because you can go to check out the matter from the blog in question. To the ends of the months I will further place a hydrological report introduced last time. Those ended blogs will remain displayed. I might do yet a language maintenance to them sometimes.

Yhä kummallisempana jatkuvaa leutoa säätä! - A mild weather continuing evermore peculiar!
Olen taas päättänyt uudistaa blogitrilogiaa, mutta ehdin kertomaan siitä vasta aikaisintaan huomenna...
Tässä vaiheessa palaan kertomaan säästä, koska sää pysyy edelleen erittäin kummallisena aikaisempaan historiaan verrattuna ja muuttuu jopa kummallisemmaksi. Kuten olen jo monta kertaa todennut, niin jatkossa tällainen tulee yleistymään ja voimistumaan ehkä nopeammin kuin kukaan voi tai haluaa ymmärtää.
Eli: Viime päivinä lounaasta on jälleen pyrkinyt hyvin lauhaa ilmaa Etelä-Suomeen. Lämpötilat ovat olleet etelärannikolla jo viikon alusta koko ajan nollan yläpuolella. Se on riittänyt sulattamaan esim. Espoon Tapiolan lumet uudestaan jo melkein kokonaan. Sisämaassa lämpötilat ovat olleet vielä ajoittain vähän pakkasella, joten siellä lunta on säilynyt jopa 10 - 20 cm. Siellä sateet ovat tulleet osaksi lumena ja huomisten sateiden osalta sama jatkuu. Etelä-Suomen sisämaassa on siis ollut jonkinlainen talvi "jo" noin viikon.
Huomisen jälkeen tapahtuu kuitenkin lounaisvirtauksen vahvistuminen ja laajeneminen. Lisäksi viikonlopun ja ensi viikon alun aikana virtauksen tulo enemmän lännestä mahdollistaa ajoittain voimakkaassa tuulessa erittäin merkittäviä Föhntuulitilanteita koko Suomeen. Perjantaista lähtien on tällöin odotettavissa ajoittain jopa yli +5 asteen lämpötiloja ja jopa Lapissa voidaan mennä useita asteita suojan puolelle (jopa siellä tämä talvi on ollut erittäin leuto ajoittaisista melko kovista pakkasista huolimatta). Ensi viikon alkuun mennessä tämä merkitsee ajankohtaan nähden ennätysmäisen laajaa lumettoman alueen muodostumista Etelä-Suomeen. Jo nyt lumettomalla etelärannikon osalla vähäinen routakin voi sulaa kokonaan ja näin mahdollistuisi helmikuun täydellisen ennen näkemätön lepotilaisten astiataimien istutusmahdollisuus; tavallaan kevään istutuskausi alkaisi ennätyksellisesti.
Tämä merkitsee myös ensimmäisten kevään luonnonilmiöiden kunnollista esille marssia; leppien (Alnus sp.) ja euroopanpähkinäpensaan (Corylus avellana) kukinnan alkua ja ensimmäisten sipulikasvien kasvua. Siitepölytiedotteen mukaan jo tammikuun lopussa oli paikallista pähkinäpensaan kukintaa lounaisessa Suomessa! Itse olen pistänyt jo merkille esim. harmaalepän (Alnus incana) punertuneet ja notkistuneet hedenorkot kukinnan alkuvaiheen merkkinä. Joet virtaavat edelleen jäättöminä Etelä-Suomessa ja meri on täysin jäätön Helsingin edustalla. Järvien ohuet jäät sulavat nyt niin, että jäästä vapaita alueita ilmaantuu ennen näkemättömästi aikaisempiin helmikuihin verrattuna.
Seuraavat päivät ovat todella mieleenpainuvia ja katsoin sääkarttoja myös ensi viikon alusta eteen päin: Sen tiistain jälkeen tulisi taas vain tilapäinen heikon pakkasen jakso pohjoistuulen myötä, mutta loppuviikolla jatkuisi taas erittäin lauha sää... Eteläisimmässä Suomessa on jo siis hyvin lähellä toteutumistaan historiallinen nykyihmisten aikaisemmin kokematon lähes talveton talvi. On kuin kevät olisi jo alkanut sekoittumaan vähitellen pitkään jatkuneen syksyn kanssa ja talvi jäi enemmän tai vähemmän väliin...
Muun maailman kummallisesta säästä on tässä taas esimerkki. Yhdysvalloissa on ollut toinen poikkeuksellinen talvitornadojen sarja lyhyessä ajassa!

At this phase I return to tell about the weather, because the weather will stay very odd as compared to the previous history and will get even more odd. As I have already stated many times, this kind of thing will get more common and stronger perhaps faster than anyone can or want to understand.
So: During last days there have again tried to come very mild air from the southwest to southern Finland. Temperatures have been above zero C all the time from the start of the week by the southern coast. That has been enough to melt already allmost all snow away again for example at the district of Tapiola in Espoo. In inland areas temperatures have been yet occasionally a bit freezing, so there has been remained snow even 10 - 20 centimetres. There the precipitation has been coming partly as snow and the same will continue in regard of the tomorrow's precipitation. So, there have been a some kind of winter "already" about for a week in inland areas.
However, after tomorrow there will be happening a strengthening and widening of the southwesterly air flow. In addition during the weekend and the early next week the coming of the flow more from the west will make possible in an occasionally strong wind very significant Föhn wind situations to whole Finland. Therefore from friday onwards there will be expected occasionally even over +5 C temperatures and even Lapland may be experiencing several degrees of thaw (even there this winter has been very mild despite occasional rather severe frost). Until the start of the next week this will mean a formation of record large snowless area to southern Finland considering the time of the year. At the already now snowless part of the southern coast the minor soil frost as well may be melting completely and so there would become possible a February's completely never seen before planting possibility of dormancy staged container plants; in a way the planting season of the spring would start in a record breaking way.
This will mean also a proper march foward of the spring's first natural phenomenons; the start of Alder (Alnus sp.) and Hazel blooming and a growth of the first bulbous plants. According to the pollen report there was already at the end of January local flowering of Hazel (Corylus avellana) in southwestern Finland! I have been noticing already myself for example the reddish and loosen male catkins of Grey Alder (Alnus incana) as a mark of the early blooming stage. Rivers run further iceless in southern Finland and the sea is entirely iceless in front of Helsinki. The thin ice on lakes will melt now in such a way, that open icefree areas will appear in the way never seen before as compared to previous Februarys.
The following days will really be penetrating into mind and I looked weather maps also from the early next week onwards: After that tuesday there would come again only a temporary period of minor frost along with a northerly wind, but during the latter part of the week a very mild weather would continue again... So, in southernmost Finland there is already very close becoming true a historical allmost winterless winter never experienced by modern human before. It is like spring would have already started to mix cradually with the long lasted autumn and winter was skipped more or less...
Here (only in finnish, but with interesting pictures) is again an example of the peculiar weather of the other world. In the USA there have been the second unusual winter tornado outbreak in a short time!

Kolmen päivän myrskyn raju päätös ja lumitilanne - The severe closure of the three day storm and the snow condition
Tulevana yönä ja aamuna huipentuu tuo alla mainittu kolmen päivän myrsky. Paulin blogissa on siitä meteorologisia tietoja linkkeineen; odotettavissa saattaa olla "talven" tähän mennessä rajuin myrsky. Tänään on ollut tuulen suhteen melko rauhallinen välipäivä (tuntuvaa tuulta silti) ja kuurottaisia sateita on tullut vetenä ja räntänä. Tulevana yönä sää vähän kylmenee ja tuon kovan tuulen mukana saadaan tilapäisesti uutta lunta (lumia sulattava lauha sää jatkuu taas ensi viikolla).
Eilinen pieni lumikerros ehti taas sulaa pääkaupunkiseudulta viime yön aikana, mutta täällä Hämeenlinnassa (jossa taas olen) on lunta vielä n. 5 - 10 cm tämän päivän sulamisesta huolimatta. Tilanne kuvaa hyvin meren yhä selkeänä jatkuvaa lämmittävää vaikutusta kuin olisi vasta marras - joulukuu. Lämpötilat ovat olleet sen verran lähellä nollaa, että vain parin asteen ero rannikon ja sisämaan välillä on merkinnyt sateiden olomuodon kannalta paljon muutamana viime päivänä. Näin Etelä-Suomen sisämaa on saanut ainakin visuaalisen talven (lämpötilat ovat olleet kuitenkin yhä myös sillä alueella erittäin korkeita ajankohtaan nähden) vähäksi aikaa...
Päivitys 3.2.2008 klo. 12:30: Nyt tuuli on jo selvästi heikentynyt viime yöstä ja aamusta. Täällä Hämeenlinnassa lunta tuli yöllä ja aamulla tuiskuttamalla muutama senttiä lisää, mutta kelikamerojen ja sadetutkan mukaan esim. Espoossa maassa on taas vain hyvin ohut kerros lunta. Myrsky aiheutti taas useille tuhansille kotitalouksille sähkökatkoja Etelä-Suomessa puiden kaaduttua sähkölinjoille. Puiden kaatumista helpotti ajankohtaan nähden erittäin vähäinen routa; vain muutama sentti ja paikoin ei sitäkään.
Päivitys 3.2.2008 klo. 21:30: Lumitilanne on muuttunut viimeisten parin tuntien aikana täällä Espoon Tapiolassa. Lunta on satanut uudesta sadealueesta (lämmin rintama) jo pari kolme senttiä. Aikaisemmin päivällä täällä oli lähes lumetonta, koska tuosta myrskymatalapaineesta ei riittänyt juuri ollenkaan lunta tälle seudulle. Tämä lumi on vaarassa sulaa jo huomenna pois, koska suojasäätä on taas luvassa etenkin rannikolle. Sisämaan lumet säilyvät edelleen ensi viikolla ainakin loppuviikolle asti, kun tulossa olevat sadealueet antavat sadetta sisämaassa rannikkoa lumisemmassa muodossa tuttuun tyyliin leudosta säästä huolimatta. Ensi viikonloppuna saattaa uhata erittäin leuto Föhntuulitilanne; jopa yli +5 asteen lukemia...
During the coming night and morning that three day storm mentioned underneath will be peaking. Pauli's blog has meteorological information about that with links (unfortunately in finnish only); there might be expected the severest storm of the "winter" so far. Today has been a rather calm day off windwise (significant winds never the less) and there have been coming precipitation in the forms of rain and sleet. During the coming night the weather will cool down a bit and we are getting temporarily new snow with that hard wind (the snow melting mild weather will continue again next week).
The minor snowcover of yesterday had time to melt away again at the capital city district (Helsinki) during the last night, but here in Hämeenlinna (where I am again) there is yet about 5 - 10 centimetres of snow despite today's melting. The situation illustrates well the clear warming influence of the sea continuing further as if it would be only November - December. Temperatures have been so much near zero C, that only couple of degrees difference between the coast and the inland area have been meaning a lot regarding the form of precipitation during last few days. In this way inland areas of southern Finland have gotten at least a visual winter (however, temperatures have been also in that area very high considering the time of the year) for a short time...
Update at the 3rd of February at 12:30 PM: Now the wind has already weakened clearly from the last night and morning. Here in Hämeenlinna there came snow during the night and morning with blizzard few centimetres more, but according to weather cameras and the weather radar for example in Espoo there is again only a very thin layer of snow on the ground. The storm caused again power-failures to thousands of households in southern Finland as trees fell onto powerlines. The falling of trees was helped by the very minor soil frost considering the time of the year; only couple of centimetres and locally not even that.
Update at the 3rd of February 2008 at 9:30 PM: The snow condition has changed here at the district of Tapiola in Espoo during last couple of hours. It has been snowing from a new precipitation area (a warm front) already couple of centimetres. Earlier in the day it was allmost snowless here, because there wasn't snow enough allmost at all for this region from that storm low pressure. This snow will be in danger to melt away already tomorrow, because there is forecasted a thaw again especially to the coastal region. The snow of inland areas will be entact further during the next week at least into latter part of the week, as coming precipitation areas will be giving precipitation in inland areas more in the form of snow than by the coast in the familiar way despite the mild weather. During the next weekend there might be threatening a very mild Föhn wind situation; even over +5 C readings...

The snow of inland areas will be entact further during the next week at least into latter part of the week, as coming precipitation areas will be giving precipitation in inland areas more in the form of snow than by the coast in the familiar way despite the mild weather. During the next weekend there might be threatening a very mild Föhn wind situation; even over +5 C readings...

Syyshortensioiden talviestetiikan hoitoa - A winter esthetic's care of Panicle Hydrangeas
Syyshortensiaa taivasta vasten - A piece of Panicle Hydrangea against the sky.
Tarkastellaanpa nyt syyshortensioiden (Hydrangea paniculata "Grandiflora") kuihtuneiden kukkaterttujen tilannetta tässä vaiheessa "talvea". Aikaisemmin syksyllä 2007 kritisoin voimakkaasti näiden kukkaterttujen poistamista liian varhaisessa vaiheessa (kriittiset kaksi artikkelia löytyvät loka- ja marraskuiden kohdilta), koska ne ovat pitkään hyviä kuivakukkakoristeita. Etenkin näin leutoina ja lumettomina talvina kaikki tällaiset esteettiset seikat ja niiden säilyttäminen ovat merkittäviä kaikessa ympäristössä.

Yllä olevat kuvat kertovat siitä, että tammikuun aikana on alkanut tapahtumaan terttujen hajoamista. Kuvat on otettu eilen Espoon Tapiolan keskustan viereisellä Leimuniityllä. Alimmassa kuvassa nähdään tapa, jolla kukinnot alkavat katkeilla sään vaikutuksesta (tuuli ja märän lumen paino). Keskimmäisessä kuvassa nähdään koko pensasryhmän olemusta ja ylimmässä kuvassa on esimerkki hyvin säilyneestä kukkaterttutilanteesta.

Tässä vaiheessa kukkaterttujen hoitoleikkaaminen (lajiketta hoidetaan näin, kun halutaan seuraavan kesän kukinnoista isoja) alkaa olla ajankohtaista ja tämän paikan toisen pensasryhmän parissa leikkaus olikin parhaillaan käynnissä. Keskimmäistä kuvaa katsomalla voidaan todeta, että se on juuri ja juuri tarpeellista. Oikea leikkausaika voisi olla se, kun suurin osa tertuista on katkennut pois. Arvioni mukaan leikkausaikaa pitäisi venyttää tällöin noin tammi-helmikuun vaihteen tienoille sään vaikutuksista riippuen. Leikkaus voidaan tehdä myös vasta keväällä ennen kasvukauden alkua. Kasvupaikkaeroja tulee myös huomioida; tuulensuojainen paikka tarjoaa lajikkeen kuivakukkavaihetta todennäköisesti pidemmän ajan kuin tuulinen paikka. Tosin runsas märkä lumi saattaa päästä kertymään kukintojen päälle sellaisella paikalla tuhoisammin seurauksin.

Let's observe now the situation of the withered flower racemes of Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata "Grandiflora") at this phase of the "winter". Earlier in the autumn 2007 I criticized strongly the removing of these flower panicles at a too early stage (the two critical articles are found in the places of October and November), because they are for a long time fine dry flower ornaments. Especially during so mild and snowless winters as this, all these kinds of esthetic matters and preserving of them are significant in all environment.

The photos above tell about the fact, that the panicles have been started to show breaking up during January. The photos are taken yesterday in the Leimuniitty meadow beside the center of Tapiola in Espoo. In the lowest photo we see the way, how the panicles are starting to be broken due to the influence of the weather (the wind and the weight of wet snow). In the middle photo we see the appearance of the whole shrub group and in the upmost photo there is an example of a well preserved flower panicle situation.

At this phase the maintenance cutting of the panicles (the cultivar is treated this way, when the next summer's panicles are desired to be big) is starting to be topical and at matter of fact the cutting was under way with the other shrub group of the place. When looking at the middle photo, one can conclude, that it is just about necessary. The right cutting time would be the time, when most of the panicles have been broken away. According to my estimation the cutting time should be stretched in this regard to around the turn of January - February depending on the weather's influences. The cutting can be done later as well only in spring before the start of the growing season. Differences of locality must be observed as well; a wind sheltered spot will offer cultivar's dry flower phase probably for a longer time than a windy spot. A plentyfull amount of wet snow might be getting to accumulate onto the panicles at such spot with more destructive results, though.
